We use the Hotelling model (1929), to study the consequences of competition on the development of financial services. The conclusion is that competition between banks and operators of mobile telephony is not conductive to lower prices or massive financial inclusion. Rather, it accentuates a polarized diffusion of financial services across the national territory, given the low income levels of the population and the importance of the informal sector that characterizes the Congolese economy.

The results obtained from the AutoRegressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model show that in the short term, domestic credit provided to the private sector by banks, bank deposits, foreign direct investments, trade openness, the overall index of civil freedom, the degree of fight against corruption and inflation affect economic growth. On the other hand, in the long term, the degree of fight against corruption and inflation influences economic growth. These results have important economic policy implications in Congo-Brazzaville.

The empirical analysis is based on the vector error correction model (VECM). The results show that in the short term, human capital, net investments and the exchange rate impact economic growth. In the long run, economic growth is affected by foreign direct investment, human capital, terms of trade, net investment, the exchange rate and domestic credits distributed to the private sectors. Moreover, in the short and long term, the econometric results show that human capital, net investments and the exchange rate influence this growth. These results have important implications for economic policy in Congo-Brazzaville

ABSTRACT. This article analyzes the impact of the perception of students from the Faculty of Economics of Marien Ngouabi University, in terms of institutional practices, on the quality of their course in License I and II. To do this, a field survey was carried out in 2021 among 205 License III and Master I and II students. The statistical analysis and logistic modeling of the collected data validated the hypothesis that certain areas of interest affect a student's success. Failure, it was revealed by the survey, is due to adaptations at the organizational level of the establishment's operation and due to the pedagogical follow-up of the students. The pedagogical support of students by their peers and course leaders, the pedagogical training of teachers, the modernization of equipment and teaching tools, as well as socially differentiated student aids are all actions authorized by the results of this study, which is aimed at championing positive perceptions expressed by students. We use the methodology of Toda and Yamamoto (1995) and Dolado and Lutkepohl (1996). We also apply the standard Granger causality test in a vector autoregression for the series in first differences. We find unidirectional linear causality running from real GDP to electricity consumption. By contrast, we find no evidence of nonlinear Granger causality between the series in either direction.

A ... more This study investigated the perception of Nigerians towards the Treasury Single Account (TSA). A sample of one hundred and ninety respondents, drawn from management staff of MDAs, in the Federal and State Services as well as Deposit Money Banks in Calabar Cross River State, was studied to gauge their perception on the Treasury Single Account (TSA) being implemented by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical technique. The results reveal a significant acceptance of the TSA policy itself but a non-significant positive perception of its operation. It argues that TSA, as operated presently, has negatively affected the socioeconomic life of the people and the operation of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) as a result of delays experienced in releases due to bureaucratic bottlenecks. The paper recommends, among others, that Government should ensure timely release of operational funds to encourage MDAs to support the TSA Policy. This can be achieved through the use of treasury bills (T-bills) or other short-term borrowing instruments aimed at offsetting the impact of TSA implementation on government cash flows.
