Dental malformasyonlar; genetik sendromlar, sistemik hastalıklar ve çevresel faktörler gibi neden... more Dental malformasyonlar; genetik sendromlar, sistemik hastalıklar ve çevresel faktörler gibi nedenlerle gözlenebilen anomalilerdir. 1 Dental gelişim sırasında bu faktörler arasında meydana gelecek karmaşık etkileşimler, dental malformasyonlara neden olabilmektedir. 2 Dental malformasyonlar, diş hassasiyeti, çürüğe yatkınlık, gömülü kalma, diş fazlalığı-eksikliği gibi durumlar dental problemlere yol açabilirler. 3 Dental malformasyonlar içerisinde gömülü dişler, sürnümerer dişler, odontom, geminasyon ve füzyon toplumda sıklıkla görülmektedir. Sürnümerer diş terimi, süt veya daimî dişlerde aşırı sayıda diş veya diş benzeri yapının varlığı olarak tanımlanır. Dişlerde görülen bu dental malformasyonların teşhisi genellikle rutin klinik ve radyolojik incelemeyle yapılmaktadır. Bu çalışma, Marmara Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi'nde çeşitli nedenlerle konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografileri (KIBT) bulunan olgularda dental malformasyon görülme sıklığının değerlendirilmesi amacı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Ağız, Diş ve Çene Radyolojisi Anabilim Dalı'na başvuran 250 olgu dental malformasyon varlığı açısından retrospektif olarak KIBT ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Bu çalışmada yaş ortalaması 30.4 olan 250 olgunun KIBT görüntüleri incelenmiştir. 43 olguda % 17.2 oranında sürnümerer diş (SD) bulgulanmıştır. Kadınların % 13.9'unda, erkeklerin %21.2'sinde SD bulunmakta olup, aralarında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık saptanmamıştır (p>0.05). Tüm olguların % 6.4'ünde odontom, 1 olguda geminasyon, 1 olgunun 4 adet dişinde pulpa taşı saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Dental malformasyonların teşhisi, tedavi planlaması bakımından önemlidir. Bu malformasyonların detaylı klinik muayene sonrası endikasyonu dahilinde KIBT ile değerlendirilmesi tanı ve tedavi planlaması bakımından hekime yol gösterici olacaktır.
Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of the pneumatization of the articu... more Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of the pneumatization of the articular eminence and glenoid fossa (PAT and PGF, respectively) using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods CBCT images of 1000 patients (511 females and 489 males) representing 2000 regions of interest (the glenoid fossa and articular eminence of each patient) were examined retrospectively with regard to age, gender, laterality, and type of pneumatization. The mean age of the female patients was 39.66 and that of males was 39.79. Suitable images from patients aged 16 years and over found in the archives of CBCT images were included in the study. The data were assessed using IBM SPSS 20 and statistical comparisons between two categorical variables were conducted using Chi square tests. Results It was observed that 14.7% of the patients had PAT and 47.1% had PGF. There was no significant difference in PAT and PGF prevalence between ages, age ranges, and gender in our study (p > 0.5). Conclusions It is important to evaluate the pneumatic cells in the articular eminence and glenoid fossa regions before surgery. It was also found that CBCT is more helpful in detecting pneumatization than plain film.

Bu çalışma 4-6 Mart 2020 tarihlerinde Eskişehir'de düzenlenen Uluslararası Ağız Kanseri Kongresi'nde sözlü bildiri olarak sunulmuştur. ÖZ Amaç: Sigara kullanımı periodontal hastalıklar, malign bozukluklar ve ağız kanserleri olmak üzere birçok oral durum için önemli bir risk faktörü olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bu anlamda sigarayı bırakma konusunda diş hekimleri tarafından uygulanan sağlık stratejileri etkili olabilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı dişhekimliği öğrencilerinin sigara bırakma danışmanlığı konusunda tütün kullanım tutumlarının, bilgi ve algılarının yapılan anket ile değerlendirilmesidir. Yöntemler: Çalışmamıza Marmara Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi'nde eğitim gören 107 3. sınıf , 93 4. sınıf ve 109 5. sınıf olmak üzere toplam 309 öğrenci hazırladığımız 20 sorudan oluşan anketi cevaplandırmışlardır. Bu anket ile öğrencilerin tütün ve tütün ürünleri kullanımı ile ilgili tutumları ve farkındalıkları değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Çalışmamıza dahil edilen 309 katılımcının 107'si 3. sınıf, 93'ü 4. sınıf, 109'u ise 5. sınıf öğrencisi olarak bulgulanmıştır. Bunun yanısıra katılımcı öğrencilerin %33' ü erkek, %66'sı ise kadın olarak saptanmıştır. Yapılan istatistiksel analizler öğrencilerin çoğunun toplum için rol model olduklarının farkında olduğunu ve sigarayı bırakma danışmanlığı konusunda eğitim almaları gerektiğini bildiklerini gösterdi. Ancak istatistiksel analizler, öğrencilerin sadece %7'sinin bu konuda resmi eğitim aldıklarını göstermiştir. Sonuç: Çalışmamızın sonuçlarına göre diş hekimliği öğrencileri tütünün zararlı etkilerinin farkında olsalar da, sigarayı önleme ve kontrol konusunda eğitim eksikliği bulunmaktadır.
Objectives: To investigate the quality of root fillings and coronal restorations and their associ... more Objectives: To investigate the quality of root fillings and coronal restorations and their association with periapical status in an adult Turkish subpopulation. Methods: A total of 400 subjects were examined. Panoramic radiographs of all participants and additional periapical radiographs of affected teeth were processed. The frequency of root canal treatment and the periapical status of all root filled teeth were evaluated. The relationship between the radiographic quality of root fillings and coronal restorations was examined by chi-squared statistical analysis. Results: A total of 9460 teeth were examined. The total number of root filled teeth was 890 (9.39%), and 658 (73.9%) had apical periodontitis (AP). There was a significant correlation between the presence of periapical pathology and inadequate root canal fillings (P<.05). Presence of AP in root filled teeth was associated with inadequate adaptation of the filling (OR=1.097; P=0.54), and with poor radiographic quality of the coronal restoration (OR=0.91; P=0.70), and with poor radiographic quality of the filling restoration (OR=0.97; P=0.92). Only 24.5% of the root fillings were adequate. The highest percentage of root fillings was found in maxillary right first molars (6.9%). Conclusions: The results demonstrate a low prevalence of root-filled teeth and poor quality of coronal restorations and root fillings consistent with a high prevalence of apical periodontitis in a Turkish subpopulation.

Bu lezyonda gösterilen tipik histiositik hücreler Langerhans hücreleri olarak tanımlanmış ve bu durum Langerhans hücre histiositozis olarak gösterilmiştir. Kronik yayılmış Langerhans hücreli histiositozis kemik, deri ve iç organları içine alan bir hasta-lıktır (Hand-Schüller-Christian hastalığı). Kronik yayılmış Langerhans hücreli histiositozis triadı- kemik lezyonları, ekzoftalmi ve diabetus insipidus- kronik yayılmış hastalıkların çok azında gözükür. Kronik yayılmış hastalıkta sıklıkla morbidite görülür, fakat hastalık yüzünden az sayıda ölümle sonuçlanır. Bu çalışmanın amacı 34 yaşındaki erkek hastada görülen Kronik yayılmış Langerhans hücreli histiositozis hastalığını sunmaktır. Objective: More recently, HPV infection has been portrayed as a vital risk factor for head and ne... more Objective: More recently, HPV infection has been portrayed as a vital risk factor for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Dentistry students need comprehensive information about HPV to provide accurate advice to their patients. The aim of this study is 4th and 5th grade students' awareness about HPV vaccination. Methods: A questionnaire consisting of 7 questions was applied to 226 students (102 4th grade and 126 5th grades), who were studying at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry. In this survey, students' knowledge level and awareness were examined. Results: In our study 75 (33.1%) of the participants were male and 151 (66.8%) were female. The rates of agreement of 4th grade students (96.1%) with the proposition "It is important that oral health professionals play an active role in the general medical condition of their patients." were statistically significantly lower than the 5th grade students (97.6%) (p: 0.010; p <0.05). A statistically significant difference between grades in terms of participation rates in the statement "I got my HPV vaccine / I am thinking of getting it". The rate of participation of 5th grade (38.7%) students in this statement was significantly lower than 4th grades (45.1%) (p:0.019; p<0.05) and significantly higher in women (47.7%) than in men (29.3%) (p = 0.005; p <0.05). Conclusion: Comprehensive training and motivation for improving dentistry students awareness against HPV vaccine will also improve knowledge and attitudes of the dental students on HPV induced oral cancer.

The imaging of anatomic variations of the paranasal sinuses is fundamental to evaluate the predisposing factors for the pathologic changes of paranasal sinuses. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of anatomic variations of the paranasal sinueses by retrospective assessment of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Methods: The paranasal sinus CBCT images of 300 adult patients who were referred to Marmara University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology were evaluated retrospectively. The paranasal sinus variations and their prevalence were recorded. Results: The prevalance of concha bullosa superior was 7,7%, and concha bullosa media was 54,7%. The prevalance of infraorbital ethmoid cell was 15,3%, agger nasi cell was 52,7% and onodi cell was 52.7%. There was no significant differences prevalance of this anatomic variations between males and females or between different age groups. Conclusions: CBCT is a convenient radiographic examination to evaluate the paranasal sinus anatomic variations. Dental surgeons must be aware of suchs anatomic variations of the paranasal sinuses. Özet Amaç: Paranazal sinüsler, oral cerrahi dalında çalışan hekimler için büyük önem taşıyan maksillofasiyal bölgenin bir parçasını oluşturmaktadır. Paranazal sinüslerin anatomik varyasyonlarının görüntülenmesi, paranazal sinüslerde görülen inflamatuar değişikliklerin predispozan faktörlerinin değerlendirmesinde önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, paranazal sinüslerin anatomik varyasyonlarının prevalansını konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografi (KIBT) görüntüleri ile retrospektif olarak değerlendirmektir. Yöntemler: Marmara Üniversitesi, Dişhekimliği Fakültesi, Oral Diagnoz ve Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı'na başvuran 300 erişkin hastanın paranazal sinüs KIBT görüntüleri retrospektif olarak incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı TMED'li bir grup hastada klinik bulguların değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler TME ile ilgili şikâyeti nedeniyle Marmara Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Ağız, Diş ve Çene Radyolojisi kliniğine başvuran 100 hastanın klinik muayenesi 'Tanı Kriterleri/ Temporomandibular Eklem Disfonksiyonu (TK/ TMED) (International RDC-TMD Consortium) protokolü ile yapılmıştır. Hastaların demografik bilgileri, anamnez ve klinik muayene bulguları değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular 20-64 yaş aralığındaki % 83'ü kadın, % 17'si erkek olan hastaların yaş ortalaması 35,1± 11,3'tür. En sık saptanan şikayet hastaların 88'inde 'ağrı', 63'ünde 'yemek yiyememe', 67'sinde 'ağız açmada zorluk', 54'ünde 'diş sıkma' ve 19'unda 'eklemden ses gelmesi' dir. Hastaların % 64'ü tekrarlayan ağrı, % 22'si sürekli ağrı varlığını belirtirken %14'ünde ağrı olmadığı saptanmıştır. Ağız açma esnasında % 23 hastada düzeltilmiş deviasyon, % 32 hastada sol tarafta sonlanan deviasyon, % 14 hastada sağ tarafta sonlanan deviasyon bulgulanmıştır. Hastaların 57'sinde miyalji, 35'inde sağ artralji, 38'inde sol artralji, 29'unda TMED'e bağlı baş ağrısı tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç TMED'in tanısında diş hekimlerine önemli sorumluluk düşmektedir. Objective: In dentistry, systemic diseases are extremely important in terms of taking the require... more Objective: In dentistry, systemic diseases are extremely important in terms of taking the required precautions for overall health and preventing complications before they emerge. Many clinicians are aware of the oral symptoms of systemic diseases; nevertheless, the major source of the problem must be addressed in order to limit the rate of misdiagnosis due to systemic origins and establish an appropriate treatment strategy. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between systemic diseases and dental health. Methods: The study included 200 individuals, 100 women and 100 men, all between the ages of 25 and 75, who had at least one systemic disease. The patients' medical records and panoramic radiography were examined. In the panoramic radiographs of the patients, the existence of existing teeth, caries, restorations, prostheses, and endodontic conditions were documented, taking into consideration the presence of systemic disorders, gender, and age of the patients. Results: Caries rates were significantly higher in the 25-40 age group (43.3%) than in the 41-60 age group (20.7%) (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the incidence of caries, endodontic treatment and prosthesis according to the presence of diabetes mellitus (p>0.05). The prevalence of prosthesis was statistically significantly greater in patients with cardiovascular disease (64.3%) than in patients without cardiovascular disease (47.7%) (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to the findings of our study, which confirm the link between oral and overall health, challenges with general health lead to several other adverse consequences, including worsening of dental health and related complications.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to apply Demirjian’s and Willems’ methodologies and to de... more Objective: The purpose of this study is to apply Demirjian’s and Willems’ methodologies and to define whether there are any discrepancies in predicting dental age versus chronological age in a sample Turkish Caucasian children. Methods: A total of 150 Turkish Caucasian children with known chronological age and gender were chosen. The chronological age was determined by subtracting the date of birth from the date of the radiograph, and it was expressed as a number with two decimal places. Each age group was determined to have a minimum sample size of 12 and a maximum sample size of 27. All panoramic radiographs were scored according to the criteria of Demirjian’s and Willems methodologies with Onyx Ceph 3.1.54 software. Results: The dental ages of the cases ranged from 4.82 to 15.66 years calculated by the Demirjian’s method, with an average of 9.47±2.27 years, while the Willems method of the cases ranged from 4.13 to 14.34 years calculated by the Demirjian’s method, with an average of 8.87±2.24 years. According to Demirjian’s method, in the developmental evaluation of dental age, 45.3% of boys were found to have a statistically higher chronological age than girls (p.05). Conclusion: The Willems method was shown to be more accurate in determining dental age in Turkish children. Further studies on large population groups and diverse ethnicities are required to increase the reliability and repeatability of the results.

Bu çalışmanın amacı dişhekimliği öğrencilerinin sigara bırakma danışmanlığı konusunda tütün kullanım tutumlarının, bilgi ve algılarının yapılan anket ile değerlendirilmesidir. Yöntemler: Çalışmamıza Marmara Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi'nde eğitim gören 107 3. sınıf , 93 4. sınıf ve 109 5. sınıf olmak üzere toplam 309 öğrenci hazırladığımız 20 sorudan oluşan anketi cevaplandırmışlardır. Bu anket ile öğrencilerin tütün ve tütün ürünleri kullanımı ile ilgili tutumları ve farkındalıkları değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Çalışmamıza dahil edilen 309 katılımcının 107'si 3. sınıf, 93'ü 4. sınıf, 109'u ise 5. sınıf öğrencisi olarak bulgulanmıştır. Bunun yanısıra katılımcı öğrencilerin %33' ü erkek, %66'sı ise kadın olarak saptanmıştır. Yapılan istatistiksel analizler öğrencilerin çoğunun toplum için rol model olduklarının farkında olduğunu ve sigarayı bırakma danışmanlığı konusunda eğitim almaları gerektiğini bildiklerini gösterdi. Ancak istatistiksel analizler, öğrencilerin sadece %7'sinin bu konuda resmi eğitim aldıklarını göstermiştir. Sonuç: Çalışmamızın sonuçlarına göre diş hekimliği öğrencileri tütünün zararlı etkilerinin farkında olsalar da, sigarayı önleme ve kontrol konusunda eğitim eksikliği bulunmaktadır.
Objectives: To investigate the quality of root fillings and coronal restorations and their associ... more Objectives: To investigate the quality of root fillings and coronal restorations and their association with periapical status in an adult Turkish subpopulation. Methods: A total of 400 subjects were examined. Panoramic radiographs of all participants and additional periapical radiographs of affected teeth were processed. The frequency of root canal treatment and the periapical status of all root filled teeth were evaluated. The relationship between the radiographic quality of root fillings and coronal restorations was examined by chi-squared statistical analysis. Results: A total of 9460 teeth were examined. The total number of root filled teeth was 890 (9.39%), and 658 (73.9%) had apical periodontitis (AP). There was a significant correlation between the presence of periapical pathology and inadequate root canal fillings (P<.05). Presence of AP in root filled teeth was associated with inadequate adaptation of the filling (OR=1.097; P=0.54), and with poor radiographic quality of the coronal restoration (OR=0.91; P=0.70), and with poor radiographic quality of the filling restoration (OR=0.97; P=0.92). Only 24.5% of the root fillings were adequate. The highest percentage of root fillings was found in maxillary right first molars (6.9%). Conclusions: The results demonstrate a low prevalence of root-filled teeth and poor quality of coronal restorations and root fillings consistent with a high prevalence of apical periodontitis in a Turkish subpopulation.

Bu lezyonda gösterilen tipik histiositik hücreler Langerhans hücreleri olarak tanımlanmış ve bu durum Langerhans hücre histiositozis olarak gösterilmiştir. Kronik yayılmış Langerhans hücreli histiositozis kemik, deri ve iç organları içine alan bir hasta-lıktır (Hand-Schüller-Christian hastalığı). Kronik yayılmış Langerhans hücreli histiositozis triadı- kemik lezyonları, ekzoftalmi ve diabetus insipidus- kronik yayılmış hastalıkların çok azında gözükür. Kronik yayılmış hastalıkta sıklıkla morbidite görülür, fakat hastalık yüzünden az sayıda ölümle sonuçlanır. Bu çalışmanın amacı 34 yaşındaki erkek hastada görülen Kronik yayılmış Langerhans hücreli histiositozis hastalığını sunmaktır. Klinik muayeneye ek olarak hastaya medikal, panoramik ve histolojik inceleme yapılmıştır. Objective: More recently, HPV infection has been portrayed as a vital risk factor for head and ne... more Objective: More recently, HPV infection has been portrayed as a vital risk factor for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Dentistry students need comprehensive information about HPV to provide accurate advice to their patients. The aim of this study is 4th and 5th grade students' awareness about HPV vaccination. Methods: A questionnaire consisting of 7 questions was applied to 226 students (102 4th grade and 126 5th grades), who were studying at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry. In this survey, students' knowledge level and awareness were examined. Results: In our study 75 (33.1%) of the participants were male and 151 (66.8%) were female. The rates of agreement of 4th grade students (96.1%) with the proposition "It is important that oral health professionals play an active role in the general medical condition of their patients." were statistically significantly lower than the 5th grade students (97.6%) (p: 0.010; p <0.05). A statistically significant difference between grades in terms of participation rates in the statement "I got my HPV vaccine / I am thinking of getting it". The rate of participation of 5th grade (38.7%) students in this statement was significantly lower than 4th grades (45.1%) (p:0.019; p<0.05) and significantly higher in women (47.7%) than in men (29.3%) (p = 0.005; p <0.05). Conclusion: Comprehensive training and motivation for improving dentistry students awareness against HPV vaccine will also improve knowledge and attitudes of the dental students on HPV induced oral cancer.

The imaging of anatomic variations of the paranasal sinuses is fundamental to evaluate the predisposing factors for the pathologic changes of paranasal sinuses. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of anatomic variations of the paranasal sinueses by retrospective assessment of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Methods: The paranasal sinus CBCT images of 300 adult patients who were referred to Marmara University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology were evaluated retrospectively. The paranasal sinus variations and their prevalence were recorded. Results: The prevalance of concha bullosa superior was 7,7%, and concha bullosa media was 54,7%. The prevalance of infraorbital ethmoid cell was 15,3%, agger nasi cell was 52,7% and onodi cell was 52.7%. There was no significant differences prevalance of this anatomic variations between males and females or between different age groups. Conclusions: CBCT is a convenient radiographic examination to evaluate the paranasal sinus anatomic variations. Dental surgeons must be aware of suchs anatomic variations of the paranasal sinuses. Özet Amaç: Paranazal sinüsler, oral cerrahi dalında çalışan hekimler için büyük önem taşıyan maksillofasiyal bölgenin bir parçasını oluşturmaktadır. Paranazal sinüslerin anatomik varyasyonlarının görüntülenmesi, paranazal sinüslerde görülen inflamatuar değişikliklerin predispozan faktörlerinin değerlendirmesinde önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, paranazal sinüslerin anatomik varyasyonlarının prevalansını konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografi (KIBT) görüntüleri ile retrospektif olarak değerlendirmektir. Yöntemler: Marmara Üniversitesi, Dişhekimliği Fakültesi, Oral Diagnoz ve Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı'na başvuran 300 erişkin hastanın paranazal sinüs KIBT görüntüleri retrospektif olarak incelenmiştir. Paranazal sinüs varyasyonları ve prevalansı kaydedilmiştir. Bulgular: Superior konka bülloza prevelansı %7,7 iken orta konka bülloza prevelansı %54,7 idi. İnfraorbital etmoid hücre prevalansı% 15,3, agger nasi hücre %52,7 ve onodi hücresi %52,7 idi. Bu anatomik varyasyonların erkek ve kadınlar arasında veya farklı yaş grupları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık görülmemiştir. Sonuç: KIBT paranazal sinüs anatomik varyasyonların değerlendirilmesinde uygun bir radyolojik incelemedir. Temporomandibular eklem disfonksiyonu (TMED); TME'yi ve ilişkili destek yapıları ya da her ikisin... more Temporomandibular eklem disfonksiyonu (TMED); TME'yi ve ilişkili destek yapıları ya da her ikisini etkileyen kasiskelet sistemi rahatsızlıklarından oluşan, sık görülen bir hastalıktır. 1-3 TMED'te klinik olarak baş, boyun ve kulak ağrısı, çiğneme kasları ve eklemde hassasiyet, eklem sesleri, çene kilitlenmesi, çene hareketlerinde kısıtlanma ve deviasyon gibi çeşitli semptomlar görülmektedir. 4-7 Sena ve ark. 8 , TMED bulgularının prevalansları ile ilgili 17 araştırma makalesini inceledikleri çalışmalarında % 3-53 eklem bölgesinde ağrı, % 0.5-81 kas ağrısı, % 8-48 eklem Marmara Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi, Ağız, Diş ve Çene Radyolojisi Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul ÖZ Temporomandibular eklem disfonksiyonlu bir grup hastada klinik bulguları Amaç: Temporomandibular eklem disfonksiyonu (TMED); temporomandibular eklemi (TME) ve eklemle ilişkili destek yapıları etkileyen kas-iskelet sistemi rahatsızlığıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı TMED'li bir grup hastada klinik bulguların değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler TME ile ilgili şikâyeti nedeniyle Marmara Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Ağız, Diş ve Çene Radyolojisi kliniğine başvuran 100 hastanın klinik muayenesi 'Tanı Kriterleri/ Temporomandibular Eklem Disfonksiyonu (TK/ TMED) (International RDC-TMD Consortium) protokolü ile yapılmıştır. Hastaların demografik bilgileri, anamnez ve klinik muayene bulguları değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular 20-64 yaş aralığındaki % 83'ü kadın, % 17'si erkek olan hastaların yaş ortalaması 35,1± 11,3'tür. En sık saptanan şikayet hastaların 88'inde 'ağrı', 63'ünde 'yemek yiyememe', 67'sinde 'ağız açmada zorluk', 54'ünde 'diş sıkma' ve 19'unda 'eklemden ses gelmesi' dir. Hastaların % 64'ü tekrarlayan ağrı, % 22'si sürekli ağrı varlığını belirtirken %14'ünde ağrı olmadığı saptanmıştır. Ağız açma esnasında % 23 hastada düzeltilmiş deviasyon, % 32 hastada sol tarafta sonlanan deviasyon, % 14 hastada sağ tarafta sonlanan deviasyon bulgulanmıştır. Hastaların 57'sinde miyalji, 35'inde sağ artralji, 38'inde sol artralji, 29'unda TMED'e bağlı baş ağrısı tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç TMED'in tanısında diş hekimlerine önemli sorumluluk düşmektedir. Objective: In dentistry, systemic diseases are extremely important in terms of taking the require... more Objective: In dentistry, systemic diseases are extremely important in terms of taking the required precautions for overall health and preventing complications before they emerge. Many clinicians are aware of the oral symptoms of systemic diseases; nevertheless, the major source of the problem must be addressed in order to limit the rate of misdiagnosis due to systemic origins and establish an appropriate treatment strategy. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between systemic diseases and dental health. Methods: The study included 200 individuals, 100 women and 100 men, all between the ages of 25 and 75, who had at least one systemic disease. The patients' medical records and panoramic radiography were examined. In the panoramic radiographs of the patients, the existence of existing teeth, caries, restorations, prostheses, and endodontic conditions were documented, taking into consideration the presence of systemic disorders, gender, and age of the patients. Results: Caries rates were significantly higher in the 25-40 age group (43.3%) than in the 41-60 age group (20.7%) (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the incidence of caries, endodontic treatment and prosthesis according to the presence of diabetes mellitus (p>0.05). The prevalence of prosthesis was statistically significantly greater in patients with cardiovascular disease (64.3%) than in patients without cardiovascular disease (47.7%) (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to the findings of our study, which confirm the link between oral and overall health, challenges with general health lead to several other adverse consequences, including worsening of dental health and related complications.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to apply Demirjian’s and Willems’ methodologies and to de... more Objective: The purpose of this study is to apply Demirjian’s and Willems’ methodologies and to define whether there are any discrepancies in predicting dental age versus chronological age in a sample Turkish Caucasian children. Methods: A total of 150 Turkish Caucasian children with known chronological age and gender were chosen. The chronological age was determined by subtracting the date of birth from the date of the radiograph, and it was expressed as a number with two decimal places. Each age group was determined to have a minimum sample size of 12 and a maximum sample size of 27. All panoramic radiographs were scored according to the criteria of Demirjian’s and Willems methodologies with Onyx Ceph 3.1.54 software. Results: The dental ages of the cases ranged from 4.82 to 15.66 years calculated by the Demirjian’s method, with an average of 9.47±2.27 years, while the Willems method of the cases ranged from 4.13 to 14.34 years calculated by the Demirjian’s method, with an average of 8.87±2.24 years. According to Demirjian’s method, in the developmental evaluation of dental age, 45.3% of boys were found to have a statistically higher chronological age than girls (p.05). Conclusion: The Willems method was shown to be more accurate in determining dental age in Turkish children. Further studies on large population groups and diverse ethnicities are required to increase the reliability and repeatability of the results.
