The chains priorization was realized with the chain priorization methodology propose by the Inter... more The chains priorization was realized with the chain priorization methodology propose by the International for Service National Agricultural Research (ISNAR) and mentioned by Espinosa et al., 2009, this methodology has its foundations in two main dimensions the socioeconomic importance and the competitiveness, each of these is subdivided as well in diverse variables. The total of cultures in the Estado de Mexico and according to their production value obtained through SIACON 1980-2007 and SIAP-SAGARPA 1996-2010, 12 chains were selected: grain maize, crisantemo, grass, rose, potato, fodder oats, red tomato (tomato), green tomato, carnation, tuna, green alfalfa and fodder maize. To priorization and as a result of the obtained variables qualifications, the most relevant chains were grain maize, chrysants, potato and rose with 102, 91, 91, and 90 points respectively.

In order to carry out a prospective study to year 2020, to identify critical factors, available t... more In order to carry out a prospective study to year 2020, to identify critical factors, available technology and knowledge applied, as well as innovation strategies to sheep production systems in Tabasco State, Mexico, secondary information of critical factors was integrated; a Delphi questionnaire to 21 animal husbandry experts to rate the current and future importance of ovine technology and knowledge applied to sheep production systems in Tabasco and to propose development strategies was designed and implement; with those ratings technology development needs and knowledge to solve the critical factors were identified, and the technological offer was assessed through literature review. Seventeen critical factors were identified; from expert rating, factors related to genetics, nutrition, forages, health, and planning were those that require the greatest attention were found. The austerity in the public budget has reduced the availability of resources to research and tech... more The austerity in the public budget has reduced the availability of resources to research and technological development. Federal expenditures on science and technology reached 27,426 millions of mexican pesos in 2003, equivalent to 0.40 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) far away from the government goal of 1 percent. Mexico needs more resources on innovation activities to keep and improve competitive position of firms. Public-private partnerships represent an alternative to add human, financial and material resources of both sectors and share costs and risks. Under this context, the objectives of this study were: 1. to show the basic elements to take into account to form a public-private partnership, and 2. to show the potential of partnerships to do research using three examples on production, processing and commercialization links of the agrifood chain. To get the information a questionnaire was designed and applied during 2003 and 2004 to public and private partnerships in Mexico following the cases study methodology. The questionnaire included information regarding initial expectations, negotiation process and results. To show the experiences and results of partnerships three examples are presented: the INIFAP-Industria maltera, CIAD-Vaqueros and UAAAN-El Cortijo.

The productive chain approach was used and the following five steps were also carried out: i) Chain characterization, ii) Identification of critical factors, iii) Identification of research demands iv) Identification of research supply and v) Identification of research needs. Among the most outstanding results we have: the development of an alfalfa chain conceptual model integrated by 6 links and 25 segments; identification of 19 critical factors; identification of 17 demands including 12 regarding research, validation, and technology transfer and 5 regarding design and policy strategies; identification of 97 products supplied by research including 29% on varieties' generation and validation, 15% on plague and disease control, 11% on efficient water usage, and 2% on cut methods. Arg., siendo una opcion para los productores forestales porque puede generar utilidades, ya que existe una demanda insatisfecha de este producto a nivel nacional e internacional; por lo tanto, el objetivo del presente estudio fue, identificar el potencial productivo, y determinar la rentabilidad de las plantaciones de hule en Mexico. Se integro informacion agroclimatica para estimar rendimientos potenciales en base a un paquete tecnologico, ademas de los indicadores financieros, aplicando la metodologia de evaluacion de proyectos agroforestales a largo plazo. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la superficie potencial para establecer plantaciones de hule asciende a 57430 hectareas en zonas de los estados de Campeche, Chiapas y Oaxaca.
