It gives speaker an opportunity to evaluate if the purpose has been achieved or not, based on the information speaker receives from the listener. There is an huge difference between communicative and non-communicative use of language as former is mechanical and focuses on communicative competence while latter is absolutely meaningful but lacks proficiency. And language that conveys no information may be meaningful, but, because it contains no real message, it must be characterized as non-communicative.

The sample teachers were being observed by the observer to find out the differences or similarities present in the teaching methodology and behavioral patterns of trained and untrained English language teachers.
