This text is a transcribed and edited version of the talk I gave at the conference "Making a Case for Cases: The Furniture of Display" (10-11 January 2020) at the The Bowes Museum, County Durham. This event was generously supported by the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership Consortium, The Bowes Museum, The Furniture History Society and the Centre for Nineteenth Century Studies, Durham University.
The text explores the artists' investigation of the Malkasten's past, especially the building and the dealing with its destruction during the war. Furthermore, it sets into context the the artists' practice of using and transforming historical objects, history of places and their stories.
