Providing QoS guarantees for the multimedia traffic in WMSNs, requires sophisticated traffic management and admission control procedures. In this paper, taking multiple parameters into account, we propose a novel connection admission control scheme for this multimedia traffic. The proposed scheme is able to determine if a new flow can be admitted in the network considering the current link states and the energy of the nodes. The decision about accepting is made in a distributed way, without trusting a central entity to take this decision. In addition, our scheme works like a plug-in, being easily adaptable to any routing and MAC protocols. In particular, industrial and manufacturing engineers and occupational hazards professionals must strengthen skills and abilities to assess risks, find fault, detect dangerous situations and generate mitigation and intervention plans [1]. For this, the subject of experimentation in real situations or very close to the real ones is made relevant, this favors the best understanding of the studied phenomenon and the lifting of mitigation plans more in line with the reality. However, the approach to special situations to an untested student could generate real risks and difficulties in the accompaniment. Due to this, the possibility of taking the student to these environments like Virtual Reality VR and Augmented Reality AR are explored that place the student in situations or environments that reproduce reality and with more information, reducing to the maximum the proximity with the source of risk and accompanying him for his correct evaluation of the performance.

Research in the area of WPANs has been focused mostly on energy efficiency with only a few papers on supporting video applications on these networks. In this work we will present a new method to improve the quality of video applications over WPANs. The proposed solution is based on a cross-layer architecture to collect information on the state of the network, and to dynamically modify the parameters of the H.264 coder at the source accordingly. We prove through extensive simulations on ns-2 that this adaptive implementation of the H.264 video coder improves the quality of the video at the receiver as compared to the regular static implementation.

REVISTA DE INVESTIGACIÓN DE LA FACULTAD DE INGENIERÍAThis Cluster has been well received as one of the most effective solutions to enhance energy efficiency and scalability of large-scale wireless sensor networks. However, it is rather challenging to conforma cohesive group of Clusters having permanent communication among Cluster heads. In this paper, a unique look at the Cluster head election problem is taken into account, specifically concentrating on applications in which the formation and maintenance of a virtual backbone among Cluster heads is the main requirement. Our approach for Cluster-based network organization is based on the use of collective social agents in order to lead the formation of these Clusters. Our algorithm uses ants to choose good Cluster head candidates and to create a virtual backbone among these router nodes.

Actually, the best solution is to use the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) architecture. However, this solution is still costly and cannot be widely deployed today. An interesting tradeoff is the fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) architecture, which reduces the copper portion of the access network. In this paper, we propose to tackle the FTTN network planning problem with the objective of minimizing the cost of the access network. An integer mathematical programming model is proposed for this problem. Next, a heuristic algorithm based on the tabu search principle is proposed to find “good” feasible solutions within a reasonable amount of computational time. Finally, numerical results are presented and analyzed.

First, a combinatorial optimization model is proposed for this problem and next, a starting greedy heuristic is proposed followed by a tabu search metaheuristic to find “good” feasible solutions rapidly. The solutions are compared to the optimal solutions found using CPLEX. The test results show the proposed approach finds good quality solutions.

One of the weaknesses of ad hoc networks is that route between a source and a destination is likely to break during communication. Location-based routing algorithms are promising in reducing routing overhead in ad hoc networks. Existing location-based routing algorithms employ the Global Positioning System (GPS) as their location information provider, and synchronize information network-wide. Nonetheless, these protocols have some limitations because the use of GPS is not realistic in certain circumstances. Since smart antenna is able to infer direction and ranging information between pairs of ad hoc node, the obtained local position information can be used to improve routing mechanism. This work proposes a novel Location-Enhanced On-Demand (LEOD) routing protocol which is based on smart antenna technique. The LEOD protocol utilizes local position instead of global position to discover routes and make routing decision for the ad hoc network. Theoretical computation and simulation results show that data packet loss rate decreased significantly compared to other methods well-documented in the literature. In addition, this protocol reduces the network control overheads and the power consumption. It also improves network average throughput.

However, the introduction of video and imaging sensors unveils additional challenges. The transmission of video and imaging data requires both energy efficiency and QoS assurance (end-to-end delay and packet loss requirements), in order to ensure the efficient use of sensor resources as well as the integrity of the information collected. This paper presents a QoS routing model for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSN). Moreover, based on the traditional ant-based algorithm, an ant-based multi-QoS routing metric (AntSens-Net) is proposed. The AntSensNet protocol builds a hierarchical structure on the network before choosing suitable paths to meet various QoS requirements from different kinds of traffic, thus maximizing network utilization, while improving its performance. In addition, AntSensNet is able to use a efficient multi-path video packet scheduling in order to get minimum video distortion transmission. Finally, extensive simulations are conducted to assess the effectiveness of this novel solution and a detailed discussion regarding the effects of different system parameters is provided. Compared to typical routing algorithms in sensor networks and the traditional ant-based algorithm, this new algorithm has better convergence and provides significantly better QoS for multiple types of services in wireless multimedia sensor networks.
