Therefore, there is an increased need to analyze the impact of the smart grid and its implemented solutions in order to address these challenges at the earliest stage, i.e., during the pilot phase and before large-scale deployment and mass adoption. Therefore, this paper presents the scalability and replicability analysis conducted within the European project InteGrid. Within the project, innovative solutions are proposed and tested in real demonstration sites (Portugal, Slovenia, and Sweden) to enable the DSO as a market facilitator and to assess the impact of the scalability and replicability of these solutions when integrated into the network. The analysis presents a total of three clusters where the impact of several integrated smart tools is analyzed alongside future large scale sc...

The effects of both electric and magnetic fields on the transition energies between the 1s-like g... more The effects of both electric and magnetic fields on the transition energies between the 1s-like ground state and 2p+ excited states of hydrogenic donors in a GaAs-Gal Al As quantum well are studied. The effective-mass approximation within a variational scheme is adopted with electric and magnetic fields considered in the growth direction of the heterostructure, and treated directly in the variational calculation. Results for the finite-barrier potential are obtained as functions of both applied fields and for different GaAs-Ga, "Al As quantum-well thicknesses, and compared with available infrared magnetospectroscopy measurements on donor-doped quantum wells. Theoretical results indicate that a detailed study of the intradonor absorption spectra together with a proper consideration of the impuritydoping profile are necessary for a qualitative understanding of the experimental results.

Daily observational rainfall series, available in some cities in Goiás, were used to evaluate the performance of three methods used to estimate maximum rainfall associated with its duration and frequency: rainfall disaggregation, isozones and Bell's method. The performance of the three methods was evaluated using the Willmott performance index, which allows the analysis of the differences between values estimated by the methods and those obtained from precipitation-duration-frequency relations adjusted using pluviograms. Among the three methods, isozones presented better performance, followed by rainfall disaggregation. Bell's method was adequate at estimating maximum rainfall with small durations, representing an interesting alternative for estimating critical rainfall for engineering projects. Key wo...

Donor energies and envelope wave functions of 1s-like and 2p~-like states are obtained within a variational procedure in the effective-mass approximation, and the line strengths for intradonor 1s-2p~transitions are obtained for x-polarized radiation and for donor positions along the quantum well. The 1s-2p+ absorption spectra are calculated and theoretical results compare rather well with experimental data by Jarosik et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 54, 1283 (1985)] and Yoo et al. [Phys. Rev. B 44, 13152 (1991)]. Also, the present work unambiguously shows that a calculation of the absorption spectra with the appropriate doping profile is needed if one aims to a full understanding of experimental measurements.

The properties of bandgaps and density of states, considering dispersive dielectric responses, are investigated together with the possibility of fabricating systems with tunable photonic bandgaps, due to the Voigt magneto-optical effect, under the influence of an external magnetic field.

The effects of applied magnetic fields on excitons trapped in quantum dots/interface defects in n... more The effects of applied magnetic fields on excitons trapped in quantum dots/interface defects in narrow GaAs/ Ga 1Àx Al x As quantum wells are studied within the effective-mass approximation. The magnetic fields are applied in the growth direction of the quantum wells, and exciton trapping is modeled through a quantum dot formed by monolayer fluctuations in the z-direction, together with lateral confinement via a truncated or infinite parabolic potential in the exciton in-plane coordinate. Theoretical results are found in overall agreement with available experimental measurements.
