Abnormal behavior can harm the horse's keeper, rider, or even the animal itself. The present study aims to examine the effect of goats on abnormal behaviors in horses. For this purpose, it placed six horses and six goats in the single-stall housing of the horses, one horse and one goat, and monitored them for 45 d. The research was divided into three observation phases during this time: in the first observation, the horses were left alone (0-15 d), in the second observation, the horses were left together with the goats (16-30 d), and in the third observation, the horses were left alone again (31-45 d). Koloni başına ortalama arılı çerçeve sayısı tek analı kolonilerde 15.20±0.84 adet, iki analı kolonilerde 21.75±1.63 adet olarak bulunmuştur. Ortalama arılı çerçeve miktarı bakımından gruplar arasında gözlenen farklılık Mayıs ayında istatistik! açıdan önemsizken, Haziran, Temmuz ve Ağustos aylannda çok önemli (p<0.01) bulunmuştur. Koloni başına ortalama yavru alanı miktarı tek ve iki analı kolonilerde sırasıyla 4016.85±508.65 cm2 ve 5300.31 ±380.73 cm2 olarak gerçekleşirken; kuluçka alanı gelişimi bakımından grupların birbirlerinden farkı çok önemli (p<0.01) bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’nin farklı illerinde (Ankara, Antalya, Konya, Mersin, Ordu) ticari ana arı y... more Bu çalışmada Türkiye’nin farklı illerinde (Ankara, Antalya, Konya, Mersin, Ordu) ticari ana arı yetiştiriciliği yapan altı işletmeden Ağustos–Eylül 2018 tarihlerinde üretilen ve tesadüfi olarak toplanan 30 adet ana arı kullanılmıştır. Ana arılarda kalite özellikleri olarak kabul edilen canlı ağırlık, spermateka çapı, spermateka hacmi ve spermatozoa sayısı değerlendirilmiştir. Ölçümler sonucunda sırasıyla ortalama 167,20±3,68 mg, 1.015±0.007 mm, 0,55±0,01mm³ ve 0.374±0.058 milyon/ana olarak belirlenmiştir. Ölçümü yapılan özelliklerden spermatozoit sayısı bakımından işletmeler arasında önemli derecede istatistiki fark belirlenirken (P<0.01), diğer özellikler bakımından farklılık bulunmamıştır. Average altitude is 1650 m, annual total precipitation is about 420 mm. In study area main economic activity is animal husbandry and animal production has made traditional practices, based on rangelands. This study carried out to determine honey plants, frequently visited by honey bees in 20 different locations of Narman. Total 56 plant species were determined and half of these plant species determined as visited plant species by honey bees. Most of honey plant species, determined in locations were wide leafy forbs and some of them were legume species. To determine botanical composition of rangeland vegetation in different locations line intercept method was used. This study was carried out to determine the effects of a colony management practice that uses two... more This study was carried out to determine the effects of a colony management practice that uses two queens on colony performances and varroa infestation levels located in Erzurum throughout 2017. The average number of frames covered with bees was found to be 15.20 ± 0.84 for single-queen colonies and 21.75 ± 1.63 for two-queen colonies. The difference between the two groups in terms of frames covered with bees in May was not statistically significant, but the difference between the two groups in June, July and August was statistically significant (p < 0.01). The average amount of brood in sigle-queen and two-queen groups were found to be 4016.85 ± 508.65 and 5300.31 ± 380.73 cm 2 per colony, respectively. The difference between the two groups in terms of brood area was also very significant (p < 0.01). The average amount of honey obtained per colony in two-queen colonies was 22.74 ± 1.94 kg, whereas this value was found to be 15.76 ± 1.64 kg in single-queen colonies The average varroa infestation level of colonies were found 4.30±0.55% and 7.62±1.12% in the single-queen and two-queen colonies, respectively. The mean values, in term of varroa level, in May, June, July, and August were found 0.89±0.76%, 3.17±0.27%, 6.36±0.63% and 13.05±1.23% respectively.

The influence of different commercial queen producers on the quality of Apis mellifera queens was... more The influence of different commercial queen producers on the quality of Apis mellifera queens was assessed. It was aimed to determine the quality characteristics of queens reared by commercial queen producers located in the province of Antalya, which is an important region in queens production due to its climatic characteristics. For this purpose, the quality characteristics of a total of 105 queen bees obtained from 21 enterprises were determined. Differences between the enterprises in terms of the number of spermatozoa (P < 0.01) were determined. In terms of the diameter of spermatheca, spermatheca volume and live weight, statistical differences between the enterprises were also observed (P < 0.05). When the relationships between the measured characteristics were examined, significant values were obtained statistically between live weight and diameter of spermathecae (0.268) and spermatheca volume (0.258). It was also determined that there is a significant correlation between spermatheca diameter and spermatheca volume (0.995). The spermatheca diameter of a good quality queen bee should not be <1.2 mm, spermatheca volume 0.90 mm3 and live weight not <200 mg. Only live weight was found to be within the normal quality standard values when the average results of the quality criteria are taken into consideration. Other characters such as spermathecae diameter, spermathecae volume and number of spermatozoa in spermathecae seem to be below quality standard values.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of supplemental feeding on the reproductive ch... more This study was carried out to determine the effect of supplemental feeding on the reproductive characteristics of queen bees reared from different stages of brood. Queen were reared from one and two-day-old larvae grafted by Doolittle method and were reared from the eggs were transferred by Karl Jenter set and given to the starter colonies prepared as queenless. The starter colonies are arranged as follows: B1, one-day-old larva were grafted; B2, two-day-old larvae were grafted; B3, two-day-old eggs were transfered; and F1, four grams of vitamin a, protein, and minaral mixture were added to the sugar syrup at a ratio of one to one (w/w) per day; F2, no supplemental feeding and the bees benefited only from natural resources. In general, supplemental feeding of starter colonies increased the acceptance rate of larvae and eggs. Sodium humates are used because of the sodium content which is important for animals in animal production. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of sodium humate added to sugar syrup in the development of adult honey bees, brood production and honey yield. Experimental colonies were randomly selected, and 5 study groups were formed with 6 colonies in each group. In the study, 4 different doses of sodium humate (5 cc, 10 cc, 20 cc, 50 cc/L and control 0 cc/L) were added to 1 liter 1:1 ratio of sucrose syrup and given to the experimental colonies. The highest brood production was obtained at a dose of 10 cc. In addition to, high dose (50 cc) negatively affected brood production. In this study, the effects of extracts obtained from medicinal and aromatic plants added to syrup... more In this study, the effects of extracts obtained from medicinal and aromatic plants added to syrups used to feeding honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) colonies on some physiological characteristics of colonies were investigated. The experiment was carried out on 6 groups of 5 colonies. These groups are syrup (S), syrup + Urtica dioica (SU), Syrup + Melissa officinalis (SM), Syrup + Hypericum perforatum (SH), Syrup + Achillea millefolium (SA) and syrup + Thymus serpyllum (ST). As a result of the research, the sealed brood area data were determined as 3013.24±1939.26, 3107.00±2060.42, 3270.81±2194.80, 3091.20±1962.69, 3273.90±2095.49 and 3613.06±2348.27 cm 2 in S, SU, SM, SH, SA, ST groups, respectively. When we compare the honey yields of the experimental groups, according to group S, SU increased by 18.48%, SM 43.10%, SH 16.04%, SA 27.35% and ST 53.86%. Therefore, syrup + medicinal and aromatic plant extract mixture given to honey bee colonies may have a positive effect on colony development and honey yield.

Kafkas genotipi 6,22±0,65 adet/koloni ortalama iğne sayısı ile en sakin genotipi oluştururken, Erzurum genotipi 12,12±1,08 adet/koloni ortalama iğne sayısı ile en hırçın genotipi oluşturmuştur. Genotiplerin ortalama iğne sayılarına uygulanan varyans analizi sonucunda hırçınlık eğilimi yönünden genotipler arasındaki farklılık çok önemli bulunmuştur. Yağmacılık eğilimi bakımından Buckfast genotipi 1,57±0,17 adet değerle ilk sırada yer alırken, Karniyol 0,62±0,16 adet değerle yağmacılık eğiliminin en düşük olduğu genotip olmuştur. Oğul eğilimi bakımından genotipler arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak önemli bulunmuştur.

Abstract In the study, the honey was subjected to analyses after being taken from different produ... more Abstract In the study, the honey was subjected to analyses after being taken from different producers immediately after the end of the production season. 13C/12C analysis was performed on the samples using an isotope ratio mass spectrometer (EA-IRMS) combined with an elemental analyzer. In all of the honey samples, the δ13C value was found to be more negative than −23.5‰ and even the C4 sugar ratio was found to be lower than 7%. The results from the physicochemical analysis of the samples were determined to be 15.9 ± 1.6% for the moisture content, 82.8 ± 1.1 for brix, 0.183 ± 0.02 mS/cm for conductivity, 24.4 ± 4.0 meq/kg for total acidity, 546 ± 80 mg/kg for proline, and 14.5 ± 3.5 for diastase activity. In addition, the sugar content was determined to be 38.8 ± 1.8% for fructose, 30.2 ± 1.7% for glucose, 69.1 ± 3.3% for fructose + glucose, and 1.29 ± 0.5 for fructose/glucose. When the analysis results were evaluated according to the relevant standards and codex, it was evident that the honey samples produced within the region are of very good quality.

The present study analyzed the effects of magnetic field on honeybees. This study was carried out in 2017 at the Bayburt University Beekeeping Application Station. In this study, the effect of Electro Magnetic field (EMF) and electric field (EF) on the time of finding the source of food of honeybees and the time of staying there were determined. The honeybees behaviors were analyzed in the presence of external magnetic fields generated by Helmholtz coils equipment. The Electro Magnetic field values of the coils were fixed to 0 μT (90mV/m), 50 μT (118 mV/m), 100 μT (151 mV/m), 150 μT (211 mV/m), 200 μT (264 mV/m). Petri dishes filled with sugar syrup were placed in the center of the coils. According to the study, honeybees visited at most U1 (mean =21.0±17.89 bees) and at least U5 (mean =10.82±11.77 bees). In this study, the effectiveness of combining various biotechnical methods with thymol was invest... more In this study, the effectiveness of combining various biotechnical methods with thymol was investigated against the mite, Varroa destructor during late summer. Experimental colonies were randomly selected and six study groups were formed with nine colonies in each group. Experimental colonies were created as follows: colonies of renewed queen bees (RQ); colonies in which the queen is trapped on one comb, but worker bees can come and go to carry out their duties (CT); colonies in which ten grams of powdered thymol was added to 90 g of the bee cake, and 100 g of the bee cake with thymol was applied to the colonies (TY); colonies in which the requeen method plus the thymol method were used (RQ+TY); colonies in which the comb trapping method plus the thymol method were used (CT+TY); and untreated control colonies (CC). During the late summer period, the mite infestation level, sealed brood areas, bee population, and effectiveness of applications were determined in the groups. There was no significant difference in the infestation rate, sealed brood areas, and bee populations in the treatment groups before brood interruption. The efficacy of the requeen method, the comb trapping method, the thymol method, the requeen plus thymol method, and comb trapping plus other groups against V. destructor infestation were 40.23, 39.76, 80.45, 98.28 and 97.93%, respectively. These results showed that combining biotechnical methods with thymol is a safe, easy and effective alternative to late summer therapy against V. destructor.

Ortalama rakım 1650 m, yıllık toplam yağış yaklaşık 420 mm'dir. Çalışma alanında ana ekonomik faaliyet hayvancılıktır ve hayvansal üretim meralara dayalı geleneksel olarak yapılır. Tarımı yapılan önemli bitki türleri patates, fasulye, tahıl, arpa ve yonca, korunga, fiğ gibi yem bitkileri olup, bölgede az miktarda mercimek ve şeker pancarı da üretilmektedir. Tarım faaliyetlerine ek olarak, arıcılık ve bal üretimi de önemli bir tarımsal faaliyettir. Narman ilçesi, çok sayıda ballı bitki türü olan geniş doğal meralara sahiptir. Bölgedeki meralarda kimyasal gübreleme veya yabancı ot ve zararlı kontrolü için diğer kimyasal maddeler kullanılmadığından organik bal üretimi için önemli bir potansiyele sahiptir. Bölgede üretilen yüksek kaliteli organik bal, tüm ülke genelinde talep görmekte ve bal üreticileri, bal üretiminden önemli bir gelir elde etmektedir. Bu çalışma 2009-2011 yıllarında ilkbahar döneminde Erzurum ilinin Narman ilçesinin 14 farklı lokasyonunda yürütülmüştür. Florada, bal arıları için polen kaynağı olan baklagil çiçekli bitkilerin yanı sıra diğer çiçek açan bitki türleri de belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sahasında en fazla Yonca (Medicago sp), Kekik (Thymus sp), Civan perçemi (Achillea sp), Adaçayı (Salvia sp), Korunga (Onobrychis sp) ve Yabani çilek (Fragaria sp) türleri belirlenmiştir.

Bu çalışma, Erzurum Bölgesi şartlarına uyum sağlamış arı kolonilerinden kontrollü olarak yetiştir... more Bu çalışma, Erzurum Bölgesi şartlarına uyum sağlamış arı kolonilerinden kontrollü olarak yetiştirilen ana arılarla oluşturulan kolonilerde fizyolojik özellikleri belirlemek için yapılmıştır. Kışlatma süresince koloni başına gıda tüketimi genel olarak 6.59±0.18 kg olup, 3.30 kg ile 11.50 kg arasında değişim göstermiştir. Kolonilerin kışlatma dönemindeki gıda tüketimleri arasındaki fark istatiksel olarak önemli (P<0.05) bulunurken, kışlama dönemindeki popülasyon kaybı bakımından gruplar arasındaki fark ise istatiksel olarak önemsiz bulunmuştur (P>0.05). Gruplar dikkate alınmaksızın yapılan değerlendirmede ise, kışlama süresince koloni başına popülasyon azalması ortalama %36.
