USEPA 3050B was recommended as the simpler method with less operational risk. However, the extraction ability of the method should be taken in account for the best environmental interpretation of the results. FAAS was used to quantify metal concentrations in sediment solutions. The alternative use of ICP-OES quantification should be conditioned by a previous detailed investigation and eventual correction of the matrix effect. For the first time, the EID method was employed for the detection and correction of the matrix effect in sediment ICP-OES analysis. Finally, some considerations were made about the level of metal contamination in the area under study.

The resulting textured cylindrical bars were annealed, followed by their electrical characterization. The microstructure was determined and correlated with the electrical measured properties. The influence of Pb doping on the sharpness of the superconducting to normal transition on the E-I curves has been determined. The sharpest transitions have been obtained for samples doped with 0.4Pb.

We provide a number of analytical and numerical expressions for the evaluation of the electromagnetic quantities, energies and forces in 2D problems. This assumption includes: (i) rotational symmetric systems as those in bearings and motors, and also the case of (ii) translational symmetry as in long transportation lines. The theory, that trades off simplicity and predictive power builds on the vector potential/current density formulation of the Maxwell equations (A, J) and is validated by comparison against experimental tension-compression data in our universal test machine. As shown, very simple computer coding is required to implement the method.

(Bi 1.6 Pb 0.4)Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+δ + x wt.% Ag (with x = 0, 1 and 3) powders were synthesized using a sol-gel method. The obtained powders were used as precursors to fabricate long textured cylindrical bars through a floating zone melting method. A drastic change on the microstructure has been found when comparing with undoped Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+δ samples. The results showed that electrical resistivity at room temperature, critical current as well as flexural strength are improved when Ag is added to these Pb doped samples, while critical temperature does not change. On the other hand, it has been found that samples with composition (Bi 1.6 Pb 0.4)Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+δ + Ag shown E-I curves with very high sharpness values on the zone of the superconducting to normal transition, reaching n-values (E∼I n) as high as 45 at 65K.
