The research presented in this study aims to address the lack of understanding of the educational experiences of military-connected children in the United States public education system. Despite the increasing number of military-connected children attending public schools, the distinct social-emotional needs of this unique sub-population of children is often ignored or unidentified. Without intervention, this neglect could perpetuate the inadequate provision of educational support in public schools, leaving military-connected children underserved and lacking basic developmental resources necessary for his or her well-being. The purpose of this study is to investigate and bridge the gaps in knowledge of military children's first-hand learning experiences. By recording, magnifying, and analyzing the stories of children from military families and the impact of these experiences on the child's socialemotional well-being, this study provides insights into the social-emotional and educational needs of this unique sub-population. The analysis contextualizes these experiences with an overview of successful school climates for all child populations in the United States. The primary goal of this research is to offer practical solutions to enhance the quality of public education available to military-connected children. It is hoped that the contributions made to the current literature will lead to improvements in the provision of quality school and community-based support to military spouses raising these children. 7 Chapter 1: Introduction to the Research Research Question 3: What programs have been developed to address the unique needs of military children?
