Abstract Aim This study was conducted to determine the effect of complementary and integrative me... more Abstract Aim This study was conducted to determine the effect of complementary and integrative medicine methods used by oncology patients on their symptom management and quality of life. Methods The data of the study were collected from 145 people between July 2018 and August 2018. The data of the study were collected using Personal Information Form, The Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale, The Nightingale Symptom Assessment Scale, and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Scale. Results The age had a positive significant correlation with CAM total score, manipulative approaches subscale, and herbal approaches subscale. It was observed that the educational status had a negative significant correlation with CAM total score and cognitive-behavioral therapy subscale. A positive significant correlation was determined between the duration of cancer diagnosis and the cognitive-behavioral therapies subscale. A positive significant correlation was determined between cognitive-behavioral therapies subscale and social well-being state. Conclusion It was determined that as the pain, tiredness, nausea, depression, anxiety, drowsiness, appetite, wellbeing, shortness of breath, changes on skin and nails, stomatitis, numbness in hands, diarrhea, and constipation levels increased, the general quality of life, physical well-being, psychological well-being, and social well-being worsened.

Chronic illnesses with prolonged and slow progression are a rising problem in health care and the... more Chronic illnesses with prolonged and slow progression are a rising problem in health care and the number of individuals with one or more chronic illnesses is increasing day by day. This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the relationship between the perception of disease, self-care management, and quality of life in individuals with chronic illness. The sample of the study consisted of 127 patients who were hospitalized in Internal Medicine and Surgical clinics, had at least one chronic illness and agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected with personal information form, illness perception questionnaire (IPQ), self-care management scale in chronic illnesses (SCMP-G Questionnaire), and EQ-5D-5L general quality of life questionnaire. As a result of the statistical analysis, scores of the self-guarding subscale of self-care management scale were seen to be significantly higher in women than men. Self-care management of the patients with respiratory disease was significantly higher than diabetic patients. As a result of the present study, it was observed that the female patients had better selfcare management compared to the male patients. However, the men were found to have a better quality of life than the women. Patients with respiratory disease had a better self-care management than diabetic patients.

Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the beliefs, use levels, and attitudes of indiv... more Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the beliefs, use levels, and attitudes of individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) concerning complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) methods. Methods: Snowball sampling was employed in this descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 694 people living in Turkey who had COVID-19 and agreed to voluntarily participate. The data were collected with the introductory information form and the Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Questionnaire (HCAMQ). The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS v. 26. Results: In the study, 62.8% of the participants stated that they used CAM after being diagnosed with COVID-19; 85.5% of the participants stated that they used CAM for coughing, 84.2% to relieve breathing, 79.6% for shortness of breath, and 73.6% for strengthening immunity.
