This study proposes an innovative technique for the load frequency control (LFC) of a three-area ... more This study proposes an innovative technique for the load frequency control (LFC) of a three-area hybrid power system by putting into consideration of honey badger algorithm-based fractional order proportional integral derivative (FOPID) controller. The algorithm’s veritable use is attempted by arranging a FOPID controller for the hybrid system’s frequency regulation; the incredible potential of the proposed algorithm is proven. The proposed HBA-based FOPID regulator is presented by comparing its results with other current methods. It is seen that the said regulator is more viable for the frequency control contrasted with the regular regulator by considering a change in system parameters and different paces of RES penetration. It is also seen that the recommended controller is found to be more effective for load frequency control than the conventional controllers.

One of the effective ways to improve the stability limits is by installing a power system stabilizer and supplementary excitation control to augment with an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) supplemental feedback stabilizing signal. This paper proposes a new strategy for simultaneously tuning the power system stabilizer (PSS) and FACTS controller, considering time delays. The design of the proposed controller is modeled as an optimization problem, and the parameters of the controller are optimized through the grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA). Three differently rated reheat turbine operated thermal units with appropriate generation rate constraint (GRC) are considered along with different FACTS devices. A new multistage controller design structure of a PDF plus (1 + PI) is introduced in the FACTS empowered power system for AGC while the controller gains are tuned by the GOA. The superiority of the proposed algorithm over the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms is demonstrated. A multi micro grid system may be molded by some of the renewable resources (RESs) like photovoltaic (PVs), wind (WTGs), energy storage system (ESSs) and loads. The fractional order fuzzy PID (FOFPID) controller parameters are optimized by novel hybrid Multi verse with pattern search (hMVO-PS) technique. The flexibility and robustness of proposed FOFPID controller is inspected under different disturbance like stochastic variations. The superiority of FOFPID structure over conventional Fuzzy PID/PID and hMVO-PS technique over multi verse optimization (MVO), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) has been manifested.

Simulations on multi-area reheat thermal system with and without consideration of nonlinearity like governor dead band followed by 1% step load perturbation is performed to exemplify the optimum parameter search. In this proposed method, a modified Genetic Algorithm is proposed where one point crossover with modification is employed. Positional dependency in respect of crossing site helps to maintain diversity of search point as well as exploitation of already known optimum value. This makes a trade-off between exploration and exploitation of search space to find global optimum in less number of generations. Filtering techniques were adopted so far to restore images since last five decades. In this paper, we consider the problem of image restoration degraded by a blur function and corrupted by random noise. A method for reducing additive noise in images by explicit analysis of local image statistics is introduced and compared to other noise reduction methods. The proposed method, which makes use of an a priori noise model, has been evaluated on various types of images. Bayesian based algorithms and technique of image processing have been described and substantiated with experimentation using MATLAB.

The method is based on error minimization technique where the integral square error between the transient responses of original and reduced order models has been minimized by RCGA. The reduction procedure is simple computer oriented and the approach is comparable in quality with the other well-known reduction techniques. Also, the proposed method guarantees stability of the reduced model if the original high-order MIMO system is stable. The proposed approach of MIMO system order reduction is illustrated with the help of an example and the results are compared with the recently published other well-known reduction techniques to show its superiority.

Majority of the wind power based DG technologies employ wind turbine induction generators (WTIG) instead of synchronous generators, for the technical advantages like: reduced size, increased robustness, lower cost, and increased electromechanical damping. However, dynamic changes of wind speed make the amount of active/reactive power injected/drawn to a WTIG embedded distribution network highly variable. This paper analyzes the effect of wind speed changes on the active and reactive power penetration to the wind energy embedded distribution network. Four types of wind speed changes namely; constant, linear change, gust change and random change of wind speed are considered in the analysis. The study is carried out by three-phase, non-linear, dynamic simulation of distribution system component models. Results obtained from the investigation are presented and discussed.

A decisionbased nonlinear algorithm for elimination of band lines, drop lines, mark, band lost and impulses in images is presented in this paper. The algorithm performs two simultaneous operations, namely, detection of corrupted pixels and evaluation of new pixels for replacing the corrupted pixels. Removal of these artifacts is achieved without damaging edges and details. However, the restricted window size renders median operation less effective whenever noise is excessive in that case the proposed algorithm automatically switches to mean filtering. The dynamic behavior of a distribution system, during an external three-phase fault and under various types of wind speed changes, is investigated. The study is carried out by three-phase, non-linear, dynamic simulation of distribution system component models. Simulation results are presented for two control strategies of STATCOM (namely the voltage and the var control mode), and four types of wind speed changes. Simulation results show that the var control mode is more effective in maintaining the stability and the WTIGs remain connected to the distribution system, compared to the voltage controlled mode.
