The carbon dioxide electrocatalytic reduction is central for the development of regenerative cycl... more The carbon dioxide electrocatalytic reduction is central for the development of regenerative cycles of electrochemical energy conversion and storage. Herein, the gaseous products of the CO 2 electroreduction were monitored by using an electrochemical cell on line coupled to a differential electrochemical mass spectrometer (DEMS), aiming at searching for electrocatalysts with high selectivity for CO formation. The results showed that, among the studied materials, the Cu 4 Sn/C alloy nanoparticles were stable during potentiostatic polarizations as revealed by in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and the on line DEMS measurements showed the production of CO, suppression of methane and ethylene formations, and diminishing of the hydrogen evolution reaction, in relation to that on pure Cu 2 O-Cu/C. The faradaic efficiencies for CO formation were 13 and 23% for Cu 4 Sn/C and Au/C (a known electrocatalyst for CO), respectively, determined by experiments of in line gas chromatography (GC). The selectivity of Cu 4 Sn/C for CO formation was ascribed to the role of Sn atoms on stabilizing adsorbed HCOO intermediates, and hindering further hydrogenation, letting CO free for desorption. These results are expected to be used as a guide for further development of electrocatalysts with a fine-tuning of composition for increasing the faradaic efficiency of CO 2 electroreduction to CO.

The search for both new and sophisticated materials that meet the needs of the modern era, and fo... more The search for both new and sophisticated materials that meet the needs of the modern era, and for sustainable eco-efficient processes, has raised deep eutectic solvents (DES) to a prominent place. Research focused on the use of these solvents-highly advantageous in economic, practical, and environmental terms-for the creation of innovative materials has been growing fast, and a very large number of publications reporting the use of DES as valuable alternatives to overcome the limitations of conventional solvents, and even ionic liquids, has been published. DES have proved to offer tremendous opportunities and have opened new perspectives to produce novel and refined materials. This review focuses on recent advances concerning these new materials and on the practices that have been developed employing DES as solvents. The definition, preparation and unique properties of DES are first addressed, followed by a more extensive description of their applications in polymer, metal deposition and nanomaterial science and sensing technologies. Their impact in the production processes and in the properties of the materials obtained, as well as their key role as designer solvents, is highlighted.

Response surface methodology (RSM) is a collection of statistical and mathematical techniques use... more Response surface methodology (RSM) is a collection of statistical and mathematical techniques useful for developing, improving and optimizing processes. In this work, RSM was applied to the investigation of ternary mixtures of polypropylene (PP), ethylenepropylene-diene monomer (EPDM) and scrap rubber tires (SRT). After appropriate processing in a co-rotating twin extruder and injection moulding, mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and impact strength, were determined and used as response variables. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was also used for investigation of the morphology of the different blends and interpretation of results. With specific statistical tools, a minimum number of experiments allowed development of the response surface model and optimization of the concentrations of the components according to mechanical performance.

Hypoeutectic Al-Ni alloys are characterised by the formation of as-cast structures composed by a ... more Hypoeutectic Al-Ni alloys are characterised by the formation of as-cast structures composed by a dendritic aluminium-rich matrix surrounded by a eutectic mixture (þ), where is the Al-rich phase and is the Al 3 Ni intermetallics. The morphology, size and distribution of the intermetallic particles decisively affect the mechanical properties of these alloys. This study aims to determine experimental laws relating the primary dendritic arm spacing (1) and Vickers microhardness (HV) of hypoeutectic Al-Ni alloys. Upward unidirectional solidification experiments were performed in order to obtain castings with significant differences in the scale of microstructural parameters along the casting length. It was found that the microhardness values were directly influenced by both the amount of solute and 1 and Hall-Petch-type equations relating the microindentation and 1 are proposed.

Avaliou-se a presença de enteropatógenos bacterianos em 72 amostras obtidas a partir de peixes cr... more Avaliou-se a presença de enteropatógenos bacterianos em 72 amostras obtidas a partir de peixes criados em sistema de reciclagem de nutrientes, em estação experimental, no município de Petrópolis, RJ. Paralelamente, foram obtidas amostras do lodo utilizado como adubo orgânico e da cama de aves localizada na área interna dos tanques criatórios. A metodologia empregada incluiu o pré-enriquecimento em Caldo Lactosado e Água Peptonada Tamponada, seguido de enriquecimento em Água Peptonada Alcalina (pH 8,4-8,6) e subseqüente semeadura em Agar GSP para o isolamento de Aeromonas spp. e Plesiomonas shigelloides. Para os demais microrganismos, alíquotas de 1ml foram inoculadas nos meios de enriquecimento Caldo Rappaport-Vassiliadis e Caldo Tetrationato de Kauffmann com posterior semeadura em Agar Entérico Hektoen e Agar Salmonella-Shigella. Collections from four localities, two of the High Plateau and two of the Eastern Mountains Munici... more Collections from four localities, two of the High Plateau and two of the Eastern Mountains Municipality of Chiapas, near the border with Guatemala, included 26 species with four new species records for Mexico: Lutzomyia (Helcocyrtomyia) hartmanni (Fairchild & Hertig, 1957), Dampfomyia (Coromyia) disneyi (Williams, 1987), Psychodopygus bispinosus (Fairchild & Hertig, 1951), and Psychodopygus corossoniensis (LePont & Pajot, 1978). These records represent an updated total of 50 species in Mexico, 48 of which are extant species and the remaining two fossils. The name Xiphopsathyromyia n. n. is proposed in substitution of Xiphomyia Artemiev, 1991, a homonym of Xiphomyia Townsend, 1917, a genus of Tachinidae (Diptera).

Resumo Os debates sobre as dificuldades na formação para o trabalho do Psicólogo no Sistema Único... more Resumo Os debates sobre as dificuldades na formação para o trabalho do Psicólogo no Sistema Único de Saúde remetem ao modelo de formação adotado pelos Cursos de Graduação, que não teriam abandonado concepções individualistas, principalmente as que concernem ao sujeito e à saúde. Diante disso, o objetivo deste artigo é problematizar a formação nos Cursos de Graduação de Psicologia no Estado de Alagoas, a partir da temática da clínica psicológica e sua interface com o Sistema Único de Saúde. Realizamos uma análise curricular dos quatro cursos de Psicologia do Estado de Alagoas no período 2010 e 2011, identificando e problematizando ementas, conteúdos programáticos e bibliografias dos programas das disciplinas e sua relação com os princípios e diretrizes da política pública de saúde. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Portuguese version of t... more The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Portuguese version of the Weight Concerns Scale (WCS) when applied to Brazilian university students. The scale was completed by 1084 university students from Brazilian public education institutions. A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. The stability of the model in independent samples was assessed through multigroup analysis, and the invariance was estimated. Convergent, concurrent, divergent, and criterion validities as well as internal consistency were estimated. Results indicated that the one-factor model presented an adequate fit to the sample and values of convergent validity. The concurrent validity with the Body Shape Questionnaire and divergent validity with the Maslach Burnout Inventory for Students were adequate. Internal consistency was adequate, and the factorial structure was invariant in independent subsamples. The results present a simple and short instrument capable of precisely and accurately assessing concerns with weight among Brazilian university students.

Objetivo Identificar a preocupação com a forma do corpo de estudantes de Farmácia-Bioquímica e su... more Objetivo Identificar a preocupação com a forma do corpo de estudantes de Farmácia-Bioquímica e sua relação com variáveis sociais e laborais e com o estado nutricional. Métodos Participaram 346 discentes com média de idade de 20,2 (DP = 2,4) anos, sendo 278 (80,3%) do sexo feminino. Utilizou-se o Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ). As validades fatorial e convergente e a consistência interna (α) do BSQ foram estimadas. Utilizaram-se como índices de ajustamento o qui-quadrado pelos graus de liberdade (χ2/gl), o Comparative Fit Index (CFI), o Normed Fit Index (NFI) e o Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA). O escore médio de preocupação com a forma do corpo foi obtido por meio de algoritmo gerado na análise fatorial confirmatória. Para comparar os escores médios segundo as variáveis de interesse, utilizou-se Análise de Variância (ANOVA).
