The paper identified infrastructure as a major factor that determines the people’s wellbeing and by extension their level of prosperity or poverty. It also identified the following; education, transportation, health, clean water and sanitation, social service and electricity supply as critical components of infrastructure. This paper reviewed the status of these critical infrastructure in Nigeria and the level of the effectiveness of past poverty alleviation programmes in Nigeria. A survey method was used. The validity of these examinations have been subjected to scrutiny because of the poor performance of many of the students at their final year examinations. Hence most universities had introduced the Post UTME examinations to further assess their prospective students. Afe Babalola is one of them. There exist varied findings on the relationship of the various entry qualifications in the universities with students' final year performances. This work examined the academic admission scores of; SSCE, UTME, PUTME and WAITAV as predictors for the performance of the pioneer graduating students. Descriptive statistics, scatter plot, bi-variate correlation matrix and regression analysis were employed using the SPSS V 16 software. The SSCE, PUTME, WGHT and gender had positive significant correlation values of 0.183, 0.132 0.115 and 0.10 respectively with performance. The female performed better. Age and UTME had negative correlation. Since UTME is a bad predictor, yet a government compulsory requirement for admission, universities should continue to combine the UTME and PUTME but assign less weight to the UTME value in the computation WGHTAV. The managers of the UTME must reevaluate the reliability and integrity of the examination.

The purpose of this work was to examine the learning tools employed in the modern teaching and learning as practiced in Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), the problems and the challenges in the application and make recommendations to improve the effective application. The authors, who are teachers in various departments of the university and used the facilities to teach, collected data through personal observations, responses to structured questionnaires and personal interviews. ABUAD had a variety of ICT facilities which had improved teaching and learning in ABUAD. In spite of these facilities, the training programme, the technical support provided and the positive effect on teaching and learning, not all the lecturers have put them to effective usage for varied reasons. These were reviewed and recommendations were made to improve usage.

Its chemical characteristics make it a versatile product in usage. In Nigeria, it is the main fuel used for cooking and lighting especially by the majority of the poor citizens as an alternative to electricity and gas. Kerosene scarcity is a serious problem in Nigeria. Scarcity was caused mainly by; inadequate importation of the product and its diversion from domestic uses to other areas. Kerosene scarcity has led to kerosene adulteration which has become prevalent in Nigeria. Kerosene adulteration could be deliberate or inadvertent. Most kerosene adulteration was for economic gains. Kerosene subsidy has also encouraged kerosene diversion. Kerosene adulteration had been implicated in all the kerosene explosions that were recorded in Nigeria. Each time such explosion occurred, several persons were brought to death and several hundreds of victims were incapacitated or disfigured. The paper concluded that subsidy is injurious to the Nigerian economy and therefore recommended the removal of all petroleum product subsidies and the liberalization of all the downstream activities in the petroleum industry and that government should provide the enabling environment for the industry to thrive and attract private investors in the productive sector of the Nigerian economy.

An all encompassing definition describes innovation as the successful introduction of a new thing or a method which is put into economic use. The entrepreneur is an innovator, who is at the center of an integrated model of economic development. This paper examined the goals and sources of the innovation and entrepreneurship, and applied it to the motives of Aare Afe Babalola to embark on the founding of a university, a social project that is highly capital intensive, without a profit motive. Afe Babalola suffered deprivation and hardship while growing up. Yet, he was not deterred. He achieved greatness by dint of hard work and self development. In spite of his great childhood challenges, he decided to give a substantial part of his life investment back to humanity. Dissatisfied with the decay in the university education in Nigeria, he found the university with the main objective of reforming education in Nigeria by example. The university which started on January 4, 2010 has been acknowledged as the best and the fastest growing private university in Africa. The paper made recommendations for the sustainability of the institution.

It operates on Islamic code of ethics which is based on the Quran. All its funds are asset backed. This makes its entire funds available for investment in the production of goods and services. Islamic banking forbids investment in all economic activities that are socially or morally injurious to the society. It operates on profit and loss sharing motive. Islamic banking was formally introduced into the Nigerian banking industry effective 13 th January, 2012. The introduction generated a lot of controversies. This work examined the problems, challenges and prospects of the new model. It was found that most Nigerians lacked the knowledge of the model and its operations, hence the controversies. The study found that Islamic banking had taken root in many Western countries. The non-interest regime and its ethical principles offered veritable incentives and attractive options for investors. In spite of the controversies and the initial challenges, Islamic banking is suitable for funding entrepreneurship and economic development in the real sector of the Nigerian economy as it provides easy access to cheap source of funds.
