ABSTRACT The thermal conductivity (TC) of compression-moulded polypropylene (PP) and PP filled wi... more ABSTRACT The thermal conductivity (TC) of compression-moulded polypropylene (PP) and PP filled with 5–15% zinc oxide (ZnO) or calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanoparticles, prepared by extrusion, was studied using a thermal conductivity analyzer (TCA). The effect of nanoparticle content and crystallinity on the thermal conductivity was investigated using conventional methods, including SEM, XRD, and DSC. The incorporation of nanoparticles improved the crystallinity and thermal conductivity simultaneously. The experimental TC values of the PP nanocomposites with different level of nanoparticles concentration showed a linear increase with an increase in crystallinity. The TC improvement in PP/ZnO nanocomposite was greater than that of PP/calcium carbonate nanocomposites. This fact can be attributed to the intrinsic, better thermal conductivity of the ZnO nanoparticles. Several models were used for prediction of the TC in the nanocomposites. In the PP/ZnO nanocomposites the TC values correlated well with the values predicted by the Series, Maxwell, Lewis and Nielson, Bruggeman, and De Loor models up to 10 wt%.

However, few studies have explored the combined effects of APOE, gender, and age. Methods A total of 1,419 middle-aged and elderly subjects were randomly selected and studied. The APOE genotypes and the serum lipids were detected. The effects of APOE, gender, and age on serum lipids were preliminarily observed in general. The subjects were then divided into the middle-aged group (40–64 years old) and the elderly group (≥ 65 years old), for both males and females, to explore the combined effects of the APOE, gender, and age on serum lipids. Finally, a multivariate logistic regression model was used to evaluate the associations between the APOE allele carriers and the at-risk levels of dyslipidemia. Abstract This research presents the design of an artificial neural network (ANN) and experimental... more Abstract This research presents the design of an artificial neural network (ANN) and experimental evaluation of MWCNTs-ZnO(10%–90%)/5W50 nanolubricant at different temperatures and shear rates, and presentation of a mathematical correlation to predict viscosity and its optimization. The nanofluid experimental evaluation was carried out at the solid volume fractions of 0.05, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1% and the temperature range of 5 to 55 °C. Nanofluid viscosity optimization was performed with respect to temperature, volume fraction, and shear rates. A point at the temperature of 54.29 °C, solid volume fraction of 0.1%, and shear rate of 1029.89 (1/s) had the optimal minimum viscosity of 38.1654 mPa·s. The ANN designed for the nanofluid included two hidden layers with an optimal structure with 3 neurons in the first layer and 3 neurons in the second layer. The value of R for this neural network was 0.9998057. In the final stage, ANN data have an error lower than 7%. This research reports the ANN model parameters.

In this work, an experimental investigation on the effects of temperature and concentration of na... more In this work, an experimental investigation on the effects of temperature and concentration of nanoparticles on the viscosity of ZnO–MWCNTs/engine oil (SAE 10W40) hybrid nanolubricant is presented. The experiments were repeated at volume fractions of 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, and 0.8%, temperature range of 5–55 °C, and shear rates from 666.5 to 13,330 s−1. The viscosity of hybrid nanolubricant was measured using the Brookfield digital viscometer (CAP2000). We found that the nanofluid has a Newtonian behavior at all volume fractions and temperatures. Also, by increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles and nanotubes at a constant temperature the nanofluid viscosity is increased. Nanofluid viscosity decreases with increasing the temperature at a constant volume fraction.

This study aimed to investigate the increase in heat transfer in the indirect heater at a city ga... more This study aimed to investigate the increase in heat transfer in the indirect heater at a city gate station (CGS) with the addition of copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles to water–ethylene glycol base fluids. Indirect heaters are typically used at CGSs to raise the heat transfer coefficient of output gas flow from − 5 to 15 °C. Moreover, manufacturing laboratory equipment in the presence of water–ethylene glycol base fluid and the nanoparticle in volume fractions of 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 at a temperature of 40–70 °C was discussed using dimensional simulation and analysis. The physical properties of the base fluid and nanofluid were measured using precise devices. Heat transfer tests for the base and nanofluid, as well as replacing of the air by gas, were conducted in a simulated and developed device. According to the obtained results with respect to the changes in convection and conduction heat transfer, enhancement of temperature difference at a rate of 36% was observed in the indirect heater with nanoparticle volume concentration of 0.2% at a temperature of 70 °C. Moreover, the Nusselt number showed a relatively good agreement with theoretical discussions.
