The aim of this study was to determine and compare the viewpoints of nurses and elderly patients regarding communication barriers in Urmia Imam Khomeini Hospital. The Sample of this descriptive cross-sectional study was consisted of 100 nurses and 100 elderly patients admitted to the internal and surgical wards of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Urmia from April to July 2017. The data gathering tool was a three-part questionnaire that evaluated communication barriers in three domains of nurse related barriers, elderly patient related barriers and environmental related barriers. Data were analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive statistics and independent sample t-test. The average age of nurses and the elderly were 28.36 ± 4.63 and 68.12 ± 2.23 years, respectively. The most important nurse related barriers were nurse's fatigue and inattention of nurse from the view point of nurses and elderly, respectively. The most important elderly related barrier were impatience of patient and not trusting the nurse from the view point of nurses and elderly, respectively. Finally the most important environment related barrier from nurses and patients points of views was heavy workload. There was a significant differences between ten nurse related barriers, five elderly patient related barriers and three environment related barriers. The comparison of the average of communication barriers was significant from the viewpoints of nurses and patients, and nurses had given higher points than patients. According to the results of this study, most of the identified barriers related to nursing and elderly patients which prevented effective communication were due to the weakness of communication skills of nurses and the lack of knowledge of physiological problems of the elderly, which can be solved by conducting training courses. Environment and working conditions barriers should be considered by the hospital authorities and appropriate measures should be taken to solve them.

Identifying of the factors that influence adherence to medication regimens can improve the quality of care in patients with hypertension. The purpose of this study is finding the relationship between cognitive self-concept and adherence to medication regimens in patients with high blood pressure. METHODS: Using a descriptive correlational design, a convenience sample of 108 hypertensive patients were selected from Taleghani Hospital, affiliated with Urmia University of Medical Sciences in Iran. The two validated and reliable questionnaires of Cognitive Perception of Cardiovascular Healthy lifestyles and Adherence questionnaires were completed by each patient. RESULTS: A direct relationship between challenges to self-concept and adherence to prescribed medication regimen was noted (P < 0.01). Threat to self-concept had an inverse relationship to adherence (P < 0.01). In other words patients who faced more challenge and less threat to self-concept adhered more to their prescribed medication regimen. CONCLUSION: Nurses should be looking for strategies and interventions such as education and counseling to stop patients with hypertension from seeing their medication regimens as a threat and encounter deliberately and strongly with their treatment regimens as a challenge to increasing their adherence to medication regimens. This study was done to translate the Self-Management Scale for Kidney Transplant Recipients into Persian and evaluate its psychometric properties. MATERIAL AND METHODS This cross-sectional methodological study was done from October 2016 to March 2017. The psychometric properties of the scale were evaluated in the following four steps: forward-backward translation, face and content validity assessments, construct validity assessment via exploratory factor analysis, and reliability assessment via internal consistency and test-retest techniques. RESULTS The means of item impact score, content validity ratio, and simplicity, clarity, and relevance content validity indices were 3.94, 0.73, 0.96, 0.93, and 0.98, respectively. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a four-factor structure for the scale which explained 70.75% of the total self-management variance. The four fa...

This invasive procedure often leads to anxiety and fear in patients. Anxiety by increasing hemodynamic parameters has negative consequences in cardiovascular disease. The aim of the study was evaluation the effects of video information on the level of anxiety and hemodynamic parameters in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Materials & Methods: In this study a quasi-experimental design was used. 104 patients waiting for coronary angiography were randomly allocated to experimental group (n=54) and control group (n=54). The control group received routine verbal information by nurses. Experimental group watched an informative video about angiography. The level of state and hidden anxiety, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate were measured at baseline and after educational intervention. Data were collected from July of 2015 to August 2016 throu...

The present study aims to determine the predictors of self-management among kidney transplant recipients in Iran. MATERIALS & METHODS This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 360 kidney transplant recipients who were selected from six transplantation clinics affiliated to six major universities of medical sciences in Iran. The data were collected using a demographic and clinical characteristics questionnaire and the Persian version of the 24-item Self-Management Scale for Kidney Transplant Recipients. RESULTS The mean score of the participants' self-management was 62.39±8.04. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the significant predictors of self-management among kidney transplant recipients were age (B = -0.319), gender (B = -1.70), pre-transplantation dialysis duration (B = 0.256), dialysis type (B = 3.060), duration after transplantation (B = 0.08), and marita...
