Summary
Eddie South (Louisiana, Missouri, November 27, 1904 - April 25, 1962[1]) was an American jazz violinist. Gottlieb, William P., 1917-, photographer.
[Portrait of Eddie South, Café Society (Uptown), New York, N.Y., ca. Dec. 1946]
1 negative : b&w ; 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 in.
Caption from Down Beat: Violin: Eddie South. Eddie made his return to club engagements when he opened at Café Society Uptown a month or so ago. He had been spending most the preceding years as a single on air shows. These days, jazz is seldom sawed by the famed South fiddle bow. Mostly it's congas, rhumbas, pops and the other things you'd expect from a "society" combo. But he sneaks in "Honeysuckle Rose" often enough to let you know he hasn't forgotten.
