Summary
A Sprint missile maneuvers after launching from its underground silo on Meck Island, part of the Kwajalein Atoll. The darker area within the exhaust is the result of the injection of freon gas, which created thrust vectoring for guidance. The debris in the air close to the ground are the remains of the silo cap, which is explosively ejected as part of the launch process. The view is looking to the south, the missile control building and radars are behind the built up area and not visible in this image.
