NCT 127 comprises four members from the previous sub-unit NCT U (Taeyong, Jaehyun, Taeil, and Mark), and three new members (Yuta, Haechan, and WinWin).[2]

The EP was digitally released on July 10, and physically released on July 11.[3] The EP includes the bonus track "Switch", which was previously performed by the members in the SM Rookies Show in 2015. The song, as well as its music video, was recorded in 2015, and was belatedly released on December 20, 2016. The song features members from the 127, U and Dream sub-units as well as former SM Rookie member Hansol.[5]

The album contained various genres such as hip-top, trap and Moombahton ("Firetruck"); retro ("Once Again"), electropop ("Wake Up", "Another World") and "dance-pop" ("Paradise").[3][6]
