2000 Amarnath pilgrimage massacre was the massacre of 30 people, mostly Hindu pilgrims, by Kashmiri separatist militants on 1 August 2000 in Pahalgam town located in Anantnag district, Kashmir, India.[1] The pilgrims were on their way to Amarnath temple on annual pilgrimage.[2] Many of those killed were porters and men hiring their horses to ferry the pilgrims to the site.[3] Subsequently then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Pahalgam and blamed Lashkar-e-Taiba for the killings.[4] Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found.
