I hate NFTs. Vehemently. I thought, "Why not make one that insults people who genuinely like them and donate the proceeds to charity?" Well, this is what I came up with, but I just could not bring myself to actually mint it as an NFT.

This picture is so downvoted on e621 that I can't help but laugh. Either people are downvoting it because they hate NFTs or they think it's an ACTUAL NFT. Either case, I love the outcome.

If this post is deleted because it too closely resembles an NFT, then I won't lose any sleep.

tl;dr - they're an attempt to establish the concept of digital ownership. Basically you own the "original" thing or you own rights to it; though no legal body recognizes them as proof of ownership at this point. God help us if that ever changes.

You also don't own "the thing" you own a signpost to a particular copy of "the thing."
There's an NFT out there where the link that was encoded into the blockchain was a URL that the owner of the NFT didn't control, so the actual owner just 404'd it.

You buy the 'exclusive' rights to an image (usually something dumb, like a picture of a monkey) for an enormous amount of money, hoping to sell the 'exclusive' rights for even more money. The 'rights' are stored on a computer somewhere, so you don't actually own the picture, just a code that says you own it.

It's kind of like sending in $50 to have a star named after you, and you get a little piece of paper giving you the "rights" to a star, except that it's totally meaningless.

You pay a ton of money thinking it's for rights to a piece of "art" but in reality you're just buying a receipt that shows you paid the seller money but only for the receipt saying you paid them and not the "art"

Lol, The irony in this picture Is real. Honestly, I think you did way better than a NFT artist. One of my recent commissions of a profile picture I had gotten was also accused of being a NFT.

I can understand why a picture like this would get a lot of downvotes.

I've seen the rants claiming NFTs are art theft, but what is the actual issue.

They're pointless. Digital scarcity is an objectively bad thing. They only exist to con people into buying more crypto so the people at the top can continue scamming as many as possible. There's not a single actual point in favour of NFTs (or crypto at all).

Before the Fed came in and basically gained 100% control of the value of the US dollar and is the entire reason why inflation and national debt is so fucking broken as they keep printing money rather than using a method that was far more universal and given its finite nature was less susceptible to this kind of bullshit? Kinda yeah.

the NFT is theft thing is because before the "basically picto Randomgenerated monkey" alot of NFT were just straight up other peoples art being sold for several thousand dollers for nothing more than a simple link to a websight its hosted on that someone else had paid/made earlier.
(note: this isnt me supporting. as a heads up before someone gets sus on the way I stated things)

NFT, Non-Fungable-Token, is not the art at all. It is the line of programming code that links to a spot in a line. People who buy an NFT are buying a virtual place to stand in a virtual line (block chain); that line position is easily visualized by a piece of artwork. Buying the NFT does not give you the artwork or rights to the artwork. Your purchase says you are now allowed to stand next to that artwork and promises only you get to stand next to that artwork. Confusing, right? There is not something to actually back-up your purchase as to why it has value.

It appears as if NFT is art theft because people are profiting off of somebody else's art when the sell NFTs that are near the artwork. Not all artwork used in an NFT has been made for that purpose. The other reason for NFT to be called art theft is purchasers of NFTs believing they bought the artwork, when in fact, they did not buy the artwork. Those people think others posting, sharing, or using the artwork are committing a theft.

Love this. The best description I've read of the Bored Apes is by the creators, who said basically, "What would we do if we were wealthier than wealthy, could buy absolutely anything at the drop of a hat, and realized it made us utterly bored? We'd hang around together acting silly." Spot-on, but not in the way they intended.

Furries complain about NFTs, but then we also have "adoptables", and popufur bid wars that can reach into the thousands when, instead, a usual furry art commission should just cost like... I dunno, not a thousand.

I don't support NFTs, but I can't blatantly hate them because they exist. Of course stupid things in life will always exist, but it's really up to us what to support and what to ignore, or make fun of. ;3

I don't get why people are hating on NFTs, what's wrong with people making money from selling their art? I think it's pretty cool, and as long as there are people who are willing to pay for it - that's fine. And in general, this technology is pretty interesting, and I even started learning more about NFT collections on https://topnftcollections.com/ because some of them are genuine masterpieces.
