Extreme macro portrait of a riparian beetle (Elaphrus riparius, Coleoptera, Carabidae) found in Latvia (River banks of Gauja, Valmiera, August 2012). Studio stack using an ethanol preserved collection specimen. Image based on 181 exposures (steps of 8µm), assembled in Zerene Stacker (Pmax & Dmap), cleaned in GIMP, not cropped. Sony A6300 + Canon FD bellows + Zeiss Jena 8x/na0,20 microscope objective (rms) + metabones adapter + 2 DIY adapters; ISO100, 1/160s, 1 diffused flash.
