Cy Twombly

Twomblys particular style of drawing, with its graffiti-like messiness of execution, combines the act of painting with writing. He often quotes classical myths, either through subject matter, by scrawled text, or through the epic scale of his works. Studied under Motherwell and Kline - influenced by the spontaneity of the Abstract Expressionists but is individualistic in his combining of art and language and elements of the unconscious. Inspired by Klee 'taking a line for a walk'.

CY Twombly. Childlike and immediate. Like he ran into the room, closed his eyes, and just went for it. More
