Light Art Photography by Janne Parviainen

When it comes to light painting, Janne Parviainen stands out as one of the most recognized names in the field. This Finnish artist has captured global attention, with his work featured in numerous international art blogs and magazines. I’m excited to share some of his latest creations, which he recently sent over along with a few insightful notes about his creative process.

Janne explains:
“In my recent light art photographs, I’ve been exploring the fusion of real-life elements—such as physical objects and myself as a model—with light painting techniques. In works like Highway, I incorporated anamorphic drawings and black paper cutouts to add a new dimensional layer to the scene.

For the piece Invisible Walls, I designed the composition to work with mirrored reflections on both sides, allowing me to expand the image into a larger, more immersive visual using GIMP.

Every effect in these photos was created through light painting, with the only exception being the mirrored extension in Invisible Walls.

The melting visual in Magnetism was achieved by using a Calligaris L’eau chair as a lens effect in front of the camera.

And Neon Waves was originally created as the album cover for Finnish surf music band, Halibears.”

the thing about being nonbinary is that you really do start to forget that other people have such strict walls around what is and isn’t allowed for genders. i thought we all agreed that we made that up. could you climb out of the cave real quick and feel the sunshine for a minute.
