It’s a nuanced process that involves a lot of thought and patience. It takes practice to figure out how to get fantastic prints. 👉🏼 That’s why I’m sharing some of my favorite tips with you today! 🩵 Eco printing is a natural dye method that uses pressure and heat to directly transfer the image of a plant onto a substrate. 🌿 The plants are arranged on barriers & fabric that has been pretreated with mineral salt mordants. The fabric and plants then rolled, bundled, and steamed together to transfer the dye from within the plants to the fabric. The mordants bind onto the fiber - creating a chemical complex - then, when exposed to natural dyes, they create insoluble bonds with the dyes - essentially fixing them into the fabric. Choosing flowers that contain dye constituents with higher levels of colorfastness is also important for creating prints that maintain their vibrancy.
