This is my favorite way to gather fabric, and I’m sure it will be yours too once you see how effective it is 😉

If you’re new to sewing and are a beginner, this method of gathering is called the 🚂 “Train Tracks” 🚂 method, as it involves sewing two parallel lines of gathering stitches. You then pull the thread, allowing the fabric to gather up and create this perfect gathering effect every time.

There are a few tips and tricks here that you need to know about:

💕 Use a strong polyester thread like Gutermann, nothing is worse than gathering your fabric and your thread snaps!

There are multiple ways to gather fabric, double rows of basting stitch, overlocking, single row of gathering and shirring, elastic, applying tension to your top thread.

Hands down the fastest way is applying attention to your top thread. It can act like a single row of gathering so it's not as sturdy or stable as double rows.

But the secret to sewing gathers this way is to keep your threadtails long at the start AND at the end so you can adjust your gathers without pulling your thread through and losing your gathering 😥
