Since there are so many approaches, my advice is don't stress and make do with what you have around the house! I generally inset mine about 1- 1.25” from each side. I like to use a full tube style of sleeve, that way any potential dust or oil in the wood isn’t touching the real quilt back. And, if your quilt has a bit of “personality” and wants wave a bit or curl at the corners, I’ve found command strips actually do a decent job sticking them to the wall and don’t harm the wall or the quilt.
