AAC Prompt Hierarchy
When teaching others to use AAC, we want to give the right assistance at the right time. Too many prompts and learning will be slow, as we're doing most of the work or they become prompt-dependent. Not enough prompts can impede learning and reduce the motivation to even try. Prompt hierarchies begin with the least amount of support (pause) and progress through to the most (physical prompt). Using the minimum amount of prompting a person needs will help them to become independent communicators.
