Nailed it!! Found the DIY instructions for my fireplace makeover on the lowes website. Prime, paint with your choice of base coat, cut sponge to fit the size of brick, dip sponge in your choice of darker color and press on to brick. More paint on the sponge=darker brick, less paint= lighter bricks.

Don't like your dark red fireplace? White-Wash the brick!! "Super easy. You just water down paint and paint it on. I would paint a small section then wipe it off a bit with a rag.
