Lucy - Metalsmith on Instagram: "Yes, it's maths..plural (or, if you live near Essex, it's maffs). I know how much North Americans love that. I've lived in Canada for long enough now that the English way of saying things is starting to sound wrong in my head. Also, words like organize and realize look better with z's instead of s's. Sorry England, I feel like I'm betraying you. Anywhooo these Coven Rings were the last pieces I finished and there are still two left waiting for homes! While tariffs have gone into effect today, the de-minimis exception is still in place (for now) meaning any US order under $800 WON'T be charged any import fee. So we're good for the time being. I'll keep you posted when there's new developments. I'm starting on new things today but unfortunately my camera h

Jessica Rose | Jewellers Academy on Instagram: "Hey jewellers! 💫 have you had a go at setting a cabochon stone before? 💎 if so what tools and methods do you use? Come let me know in the comments👇 Whether you use a square pusher, a bezel rocker or even a hammer handpiece, one of the best ways to make sure your stone stays central is to use the compass points! 🧭 Follow a North, South, East and West direction and you will be able to reduce the risk of your bezel setting being uneven or the wire folding or gathering anywhere 💍 A burnisher is a great tool for smoothing the edges and adding shine 💫 And if you have particularly thick or tough wire, or need a little more strength to fold the edges over, then a mallet and punch applied gently at a high angle can also help ⚒️ especially
Kelly Twigg | Artisan Jewellery on Instagram: "My first ever collet setting! ⚒️ This was the fifth project from reel two of my Dioploma course and things are definitely getting more challenging now! I actually had to make the collet part twice, after getting my maths wrong initially. The one you see featured here up until I used the collet block was actually far too wide at the base. So I re-made it and carried on. Everything shown from the sanding of the setting onwards became part of the final ring. I didn’t go back and film the first few stages again though as I was a bit cross with myself and pressed for time, but the process and procedures were the same. Just goes to show the huge difference a couple of millimeters can make, and why precision is so key when it comes to making jew
BENCHspace on Instagram: "Chain making… soldering top tips 🤘 Silver soldering requires the metal to get to soldering temperature so that the solder will flow between the join. (You don’t heat the solder that then melts into the join….it’s the other way round). We use hard solder for nearly everything as it allows you to make multiple joins near to each other, without unsoldering the work you’ve already done. Hard solder relates to the melting point of the solder, not the level of difficulty to use. The solders in order from high to low are: enamelling, hard, medium, easy and extra easy. Easy solder is not necessarily easier to use. ✅ Hard solder gives you good control, good colour and strong joints. When you’re soldering two pieces together they need to get to the same temperature

1 min tutorial Labradorite wrap 1 Part 1. I will post part 2 and 3 later. I use square wire for the base, shaping it to fit the stone, then hammering it. After making the bail and the frame to hold the stone, I hammer it again. Why? Hammering strengthens the wire, helping it hold its shape while I add more wire. Plus, it creates a flat shape which I like. Materials : Labradorite 28mm (faceted) 16 ga square wire 18 ga round 20 ga half round 26 ga round 28 ga round 4mm bead (solid sterling...
ℕ𝕒𝕠𝕞𝕚 ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕝𝕠𝕥𝕥𝕖 on Instagram: "This post is an ode to construction & connections. I’ve really taken a deep dive into prongs & mixed settings & interesting ways to connect them. It’s both fun & frustrating & a definite labor of love. When I choose the stones I really don’t know how I’m going to put them all together till I come to that point, which is in part why I’m so damn slow, but for me the fun is in the exploration. These tactile creative moments are when I’m most able to close out the rest of the worldly noise (which is frighteningly abundant rn), and really just be thoroughly immersed in the present of what I’m doing, and that is a serious blessing, even if it sometimes makes me insane 😆😵‍💫 If all goes according to plan, which it frequently doesn’t 😬, I’ll finish t

Nadine Suzanne | Sand Cast Jewellery & Workshops on Instagram: "This piece feels extra special because this exact style was the first ring I made back in January. The design is part of my Shoreline Collection, inspired by the ocean and my love for the beach. The idea came to me during a road trip, sitting by the water and watching the waves come in. After lots of trial and error, I created a technique to sand cast silver and gold into something truly unique and one of a kind. This collection has become my signature and best-seller—a true labor of love. 💛 #sandcast #shoreline #jewellery #jewellerygram #beachvibes #mensring"
