While there is a large number of research work performed in quantifying and exploiting social net... more While there is a large number of research work performed in quantifying and exploiting social networks data, there is also a need to understand users and their usage from their socio-demographics standing point. Such an understanding would provide researchers and practitioners a better picture on the interest of specific groups. This paper is an effort towards understanding some socio-demographics patterns on the usage of ephemeral social networks. It describes the results of a statistical investigation performed on a survey operated on a descent number of users to understand four dimensions: Age, level of education, gender, and marital status. Obtained results reveal that while posting video and photos and seeing what my friends are posting are the highest ranked reasons for using Snapchat, users’ socio-demographic dimensions influenced the usage patterns of Snapchat in three other areas: Playing with filters, posting videos and photos, and seeing what celebrities are posting. These findings extend the current understanding of different social networks and is a unique perspective in the usage patterns of Snapchat.
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose and empirically test a unified framework that c... more Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose and empirically test a unified framework that captures the antecedents of e-business implementation, that is; organizational factors which is decomposed into organizational capabilities (training availability, technical expertise, knowledge level), knowledge management capabilities (knowledge acquisition, application, and sharing), adhocracy culture, and top management support, e-business implementation, and organizational performance (efficiency, sales performance, customer satisfaction, relationship development). Design/methodology/approach – Data from a survey of 258 top managers in Saudi Arabian enterprises were collected to empirically test the proposed research model. Additionally, the statistical techniques employed included a confirmatory factor analysis to examine the reliability and validity of the measurement model, and structural equation modeling using AMOS is utilized to test the hypotheses. Findings – The findings of this study suggest that organizational factors influence e-business implementation. Moreover, e-business implementation affects organizational performance. Research limitations/implications – This study did not investigate all organizational factors and knowledge management processes. Future research could assess the influence of additional factors such as technology and environment contexts on e-business implementation. Practical implications – Owners/managers considering e-business implementation would be best to focus on internal (organizational) factors and their interaction within and beyond the organization, rather than focussing exclusively on technological considerations. Originality/value – This study is significant for at least two reasons: it determines the key antecedents to successful business implementation based on organizational factors and it helps to understand the effects of e-business implementation on organizational performance.
This research aims at exploring the critical success factors in addition to the captured benefits... more This research aims at exploring the critical success factors in addition to the captured benefits and value with regard to the use and deployment of Iris Recognition Technology (IRT) in the banking industry. We discuss the traditional practices of information security models in the banking sector and how these models have been significantly improved by the use of biometrics and more specifically by the use of IRT. The advantages associated with the use of IRT amongst other biometric technologies are analyzed and justified. A case study is presented, based on in-depth semi-structured interviews with key decision makers of Cairo Amman Bank (CAB) in Jordan; the first bank in the world that has implemented a full roll-out of IRT-enabled services, through which issues and challenges associated with the adoption of IRT in the banking industry are thoroughly analyzed and examined. Based on the findings, the critical success factors for implementing iris scanning technologies in the banking sector are identified and discussed. Finally, analysis of business value and benefits captured as a result of adopting IRT by banks are discussed.
