"READ MY DNI" no. use your block button like an adult. i'm not scrolling through the many-paragraphs-long pinned posts of every blog i reblog something from. if you insist certain types of people aren't welcome in the notes of your posts then it's your responsibility to curate that. or choose a closed social media platform like facebook or instagram. or go and live in a barn away from humanity if you really don't like sharing the world with people who are different from you

I think that DNIs are a really clear example of the backwards understanding of boundaries that a lot of people have. Some people think it works like:
"My boundary is that YOU can't do this thing I don't like"

When really it's more like:
"My boundary is that if you do this thing that I've told you I don't like then I will remove myself from the situation"

The former does not work. The latter is more effective, it takes responsibility for yourself, and also it puts the power over your wellbeing into your hands and not in the hands of strangers who may or may not be malicious.

I want mundane info about Coruscant please. Where does it store all its water? Does it have enough or does it import it? Is all water equal for all species (same chemical make-up)? How does the plumbing work in all those stupidly high skyscrapers? What about the sewer system? Do they have lots of dianogas? What about pests like rats? That planet must make a lot of excrement. What is the ecosystem? Are there animals living there? What powers everything? Who are the janitors? What day is bin day and how does it work? Do the Jedi hire staff or do they clean and maintain their own bathrooms? Food importation must be insane. Etc…

my brain went on an adventure of wondering like a 5 year old child star wars inane rambles these are rhetorical i am not expecting answers coruscant

Basically, I don't think there's going to be an announcement that Tumblr is getting shut down. If the pattern we're seeing holds, I don't even think it's going to happen intentionally. I think Tumblr is going to go out like an early 2000s forum: they're just going to keep cutting the tech support budget until something goes wrong in a way that none of the remaining skeleton crew know how to repair, which could be tomorrow or three years from now. If it does happen, it's probably going to happen completely at random, so there's no point stressing out!

i hope tumblr becomes an inyernet cryptid and never dies source of rumour and fear

Fun fact, on top of being staunchly against genAI, ellipsus literally has an Export To AO3 button. I do the majority of my writing in LibreOffice, but I've been moving all my GDocs over to ellipsus for a bit and I really love the interface. If you're looking for an alternative to GDocs, this is The One.

"Anyone sitting down to write a screenplay on November 1, 1994, as Lucas apparently did, would have been interrupted eight days into the writing process by one of the most seismic midterm in postwar American history. Republicans took the House and the Senate for the first time in 40 years. A resurgent GOP under House Speaker Newt Gingrich started pushing its tax-cutting, regulation-slashing 'Contract with America.' Democrats, whose messaging had improved since Ted Kennedy's 'Star Wars' flub, started calling it a 'Contract On America.'
It was perhaps no co-incidence, then, that Lucas started writing about a 'Trade Federation,' aided and emboldened by corrupt politicians, embroiled in some sort of dispute over the taxing of trade to the outlying star systems. We never learn what the dispute is about — whether the Trade Federation was pro- or anti-tax. But what we know is that the name of the leader of the Trade Federation — never actually spoken in the movie, but noted in the script from the start — was Nute Gunray. By 1997, when the GOP Senate leader was Trent Lott, Lucas named the Trade Federation's representative in the Galactic Senate: Lott Dodd. We're a long way from the subtlety of his [George Lucas's] [North] Vietnam metaphor here."
Taylor, Chris. How Star Wars Conquered the Universe: The Past, Present Future of a Multibillion Dollar Franchisen. Basic Books, 2014.

You know, I've read the names of the Trade Federation leaders Lott Dod and Nute Gunray a thousand times, and never really processed the fact that Lucas named them openly after conservative American politicians. Senator Trent Lott and Senator Christopher Dodd, and Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan.

you go girl george lucas who needs subtlety star wars nute gunray lott dodd trade federation
