Therefore, alternative soil nutrient sources are searched for and biological alternatives offer promising outcomes in this sense. In this study, effects of single, dual and triple combinations of phosphorous-solubilizing (Bacillus megatherium var. phosphaticum [M-13]) and N-fixing bacteria (Stenotrophomonas maltophilia [82] and Ralstonia pickettii [73]) treatments on plant growth, yield and yield component of barley were investigated and potential effects were compared with chemical fertilizers (N (80 kg ha-1 N), P (50 kg ha-1 P 2 0 5) and N+P (80 kg ha-1 + 50 kg ha-1 P 2 0 5) and Control treatments. The longest grain filling period was obtained from Ralstonia pickettii, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Bacillus megatherium var. phosphaticum + Stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacteria treatments. The highest number of spikes per m 2 , 1000-kernel weight, and test weight values were obtained from sole N treatments, the highest number of kernels per spike, protein content, grain yield, and biological yield from N+P treatments and the highest harvest index values from Ralstonia pickettii + Stenotrophomonas maltophilia treatments. In general, bacterial treatments resulted in significant changes in yield and yield parameters of barley and significant increases were achieved as compared to the Control.

External and endogenous use of MSHs resulted in different response in different plant species. However, effects of different MSHs with concentrations on different wheat genetic backgrounds have not been studied in vitro. Therefore, three wheat cultivars (cvs. Palandöken 97, Nenehatun, Kırik) and four MSHs (17 β-estradiol, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone) with three concentrations of 10-4 , 10-5 , 10-6 mM were used to investigate callus formation and embryonic callus formation rates as well as number of regenerated plants. Our results showed that wheat genotypes were signi cantly in uenced by the type of MSH and its concentration. In addition, effect of hormones may vary with respect to growth or development of cells or plants. The highest callus formation rate was obtained on cv. Palandöken 97 with 10-4 mM testosterone hormone. Embryogenic callus formation rate with respect to number of explants was the highest on Palandöken 97 in 17β-estradiol with 10-4 mM while embryogenic callus formation rate with respect to number of calli was the highest on cv. Kırik in progesterone and 10-4 mM concentration. On the other hand, the highest regenerated plants were observed on cv. Palandöken 97 in 10-6 mM 17β-estradiol and 10-6 Mm progesterone. Such contrasting results may indicate the potential utilization of suitable wheat genotypes, MSHs and doses in wheat tissue culture which is a prerequisite in wheat transformation experiments.

Evaluation of silage performance of some corn varieties grown as a second crop in Kayseri province

Bu çalışma, Kayseri koşullarında ikinci ürün silajlık mısır üretim olanaklarını araştırmak amacıy... more Bu çalışma, Kayseri koşullarında ikinci ürün silajlık mısır üretim olanaklarını araştırmak amacıyla Erciyes Üniversitesi Tarımsal Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezine ait uygulama alanında, 2014 ve 2015 yıllarında ikinci ürün şartlarında yürütülmüştür. Bitki materyali olarak, tescil listesinde yer alan 24 mısır çeşidi değerlendirilmiştir. Yapılan değerlendirmede, bitki başına koçan sayısı hariç ölçülen tüm parametreler önemli derecede farklılık göstermiştir. İki yıllık ortalama sonuçlara göre; çeşitlerden çıkış süresi en kısa olan Hido çeşidi, çıkış süresi en uzun olan ise PR31D24 çeşidi olmuştur. BC5610, BC8605 ve Hido çeşitleri en kısa sürede tepe ve koçan püskülü çıkarıp silaj için olgunlaşan çeşitler olmuştur. Diğer yandan en geç tepe ve koçan püskülü çıkararak en geç silaj için hasada ulaşan çeşitler de PR31D24 ve PR31G98 olmuştur. Koçan sayısı en fazla olan DKC-5783 ve Hacıbey çeşitleri, koçan sayısı en az olan çeşit ise Oran (0.7 adet bitki-1) olarak tespit edilmiştir. Denemede en fazla yaprak sayısı Korimbos ve Hacıbey çeşitlerinde, en az ise KWS 6565 çeşidinde tespit edilmiştir. En yüksek hasıl verimi 5368.1 kg da-1 ile Oran çeşidinde, en düşük ise 3317.4 kg da-1 ile KWS 6565 çeşidinden elde edilmiştir. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda, erkencilik yönünden Hido çeşidi başta olmak üzere silaj için hasat olgunluğuna en erken ulaşan BC 5610 ve BC 8605 çeşitleri, hasıl verimi, bitki başına koçan ve yaprak sayısı gibi karakterler yönünden ise daha yüksek değerlere sahip olan Oran, DKC-5783, Hacıbey ve Korimbos çeşitlerinin Kayseri ve benzer ekolojilerde ikinci ürün şartlarında ümit var oldukları bulunmuştur.

This research was carried out on research plots of the Agricultural Research and Extension Center of Atatürk University Agricultural Faculty during the cropping seasons of 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09 under dry farming conditions. A factorial experimental design with 4 replications was used to set up the experimental plots. The factors were 2 wheat cultivars (Kırik and Doğu-88), 3 weed control practices (weedy control, hand weeding, dense sowing), and 7 fertilizer sources [control, standard inorganic (NP), Bio-Organic (Bio), Bio-SR Organic (Bio SR), Leonardite, Organic fertilizer (OF), and cattle manure (CM)]. Hectoliter weight, crude protein ratio, Zeleny sedimentation value, wet gluten content, number of fall (enzyme activity), and crude ash ratio were investigated as the quality parameters for bread-wheat cultivars. Differences between Doğu-88 and Kırik were significant with regard to the investigated parameters except for hectoliter weight. Kırik was superior in terms of quality parameters. Weed control practices significantly affected the investigated parameters. The highest Zeleny sedimentation value and wet gluten content were obtained from hand weeding, while the highest crude protein ratio was obtained from weedy control. The manure sources affected the investigated parameters significantly. The highest values were obtained from NP fertilizer source. Organic manure sources increased the quality parameter compared to the control and the highest quality values were obtained from CM treatment. It was concluded that local cultivar Kırik should be preferred to modern cultivar Doğu 88 for high grain quality in organic wheat farming. CM should be applied as an organic fertilizer due to high quality values in organic wheat farming under the dry farming conditions of Erzurum Province in Turkey.

Farmers grow corn genotypes for both silage and kernel yield but they have no idea about the genetic adaptation capacity of these genotypes to Kayseri conditions. Therefore, in present study, adaptation capacity of 24 different corn genotypes to Kayseri conditions were investigated for kernel yield during the years 2011 and 2012. Considering two-year averages, average cob length was 17.1 cm, cob diameter was 4.9 cm, number of kernel per cob was 523.3, kernel weight per cob was 158.9 g, kernel-cob ratio was 62.8, 1000-kernel weight was 312.9 g, hectoliter weight was 66.5 kg and crude protein ratio was 10.1. Resultant material is highly stable material with excellent surface characteristics and pore structure and is also rich in functional groups. Such properties of the material are largely influenced by pre- and post-treatments and thermal decomposition conditions. Various methods have been used for thermal decomposition of biomass, such as pyrolysis thermal carbonization, torrefaction and microwave heating at different temperatures and for different durations. Biochar has recently started to be used for wastewater treatment and water pollution control purposes. The effects of organic fertilizers and sowing density on root and crown rot disease agents of org... more The effects of organic fertilizers and sowing density on root and crown rot disease agents of organic wheat were investigated during the 2008-09 seasons; in Erzurum (Turkey) at dry agriculture conditions. Experiment design was factorial with completely randomized block design having 4 replications. Factors were two wheat cultivars (Dogu-88 and Kirik), two sowing density (475 seeds m -2 and 625 seeds m -2 ) and seven fertilizer sources (control, standard inorganic (NP), Bio-Organic, Bio-Organic SR, Leonardit, Organic fertilizer and cattle manure). Farmers grow corn genotypes for both silage and kernel yield but they have no idea about the genetic adaptation capacity of these genotypes to Kayseri conditions. Therefore, in present study, adaptation capacity of 24 different corn genotypes to Kayseri conditions were investigated for kernel yield during the years 2011 and 2012. Considering two-year averages, average cob length was 17.1 cm, cob diameter was 4.9 cm, number of kernel per cob was 523.3, kernel weight per cob was 158.9 g, kernel-cob ratio was 62.8, 1000-kernel weight was 312.9 g, hectoliter weight was 66.5 kg and crude protein ratio was 10.1.
