Honestly, when Sang Yan asked me if Duan Jiaxu was handsome, I felt quite strange. “Who’s handsomer, Duan Jiaxu or me?” I vote for you. No need. I never force others to make their choices. I’m sincere. Really? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have pursued you so crazily.
Thinking about Wen Yifan and how the last scene is a reminder that despite everything she had to deal with all alone, she still managed to pull herself out over and over again. She protected herself, called the cops back then, left everything she knew to go to a faraway city, dealt with loneliness for literal years - all in her formative years by the way.
She was a teenager back then, but even throughout her early 20s - it’s just a blank blob for her because she wasn’t fully present in her own life.
Like this woman has been through some serious shit and not just survived but actually made a life for herself (as she herself says in the end).
If she can do all of that as a vulnerable teen, then everyone should honestly fear for their lives if she’s on the other end threatening them.
Though I suppose her self-blame is gonna come up again with Sangyan getting affected but just she was finally starting to be brave enough to love and let herself be loved. Only for things to get messed up again.
However, I’m never going to get over her sheer will and resolve to stand her ground. I’ve already said this before but it’s so admirable to me because all of these adults in her life have hurt her (in position of power) and she had to take care of herself (vulnerable), yet she’s not timid or meek about anything. She was so young when all of it happened but she still has had enough strength to hold her ground, make choices to protect herself, defend those choices and never let these people forget what they’ve done.
Her capacity to love and being brave enough to pursue Sangyan isn’t unfounded, it comes from the same reserve - just it was buried deep.
