I don't know what crack the founders of ao3 put in the system of how comments work, but I swear it's like a gambling addiction. God forbid my phone dings once approximately an hour after releasing a chapter which is the appropriate amount of time to read it. It's like hearing chips clattering or a ball being dropped in the roulette. I lunge for that damn phone like it's catnip. That notification and little icon on top of my screen is like serotonin injected directly into my bloodstream. I can't stop staring at it. I dream of seeing it every morning before I check my phone. Seriously, a study needs to be conducted on whether a validation addiction is even possible

Hands up if you were the child that read thousands of books and as an adult you hit burn out and now only read stories about the same 2 idiots falling in love over and over as you don't have the brain power to get emotionally attached to new characters.
