Digital technologies enable apparel manufacturers to unlock solutions for new product development... more Digital technologies enable apparel manufacturers to unlock solutions for new product development (NPD) challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. A Product Configurator (PC) is the key to Mass Customization (MC) as it can employ to elicit customer requirements, which is essential in successful NPD. Even though some online PCs exist in apparel retail and product development, no one could gather customer requirements and deploy them in the NPD. This paper conceptualizes a Natural Language Processing (NLP)-based PC on eliciting customer requirements based on a systematic literature review and a basic concept of Design Space Analysis. Finally, it is contended that this knowledge can apply in relevant software development to modernize apparel design, development and online retail.

It consists with “update forms” to collect data, “reports” to distribute data, and “databases” to store data. IS plays a major role in many businesses, because it improves the business competitiveness. Although SMEs are interested to adopt IS, they are often suffered by other factors: time, underline cost, and availability of ICT experts. Hence, the ideal solution for them is to automate the process of IS design and development without ICT expertise for an affordable cost. The software tools are available on the Web to generate the “update forms” and “reports” automatically for a given database model. However, there is no approach to generate the databases of IS automatically. Relational database model (RDBM) is the most commonly used database model in IS due to its advantages than the other data model...

Lack of technical knowledge in Information Communication Technology and the cost have been identified as challenges forsmall and medium enterprises to adopt ICT for their businesses. They can overcome this problem by using freely available tools/systems which aid to generate information systems automatically. However, they require the database structure; therefore, it is desirable to have a tool to automate the relational database design process. In the proposed approach, business forms were considered as the database requirement input sources among: learning from examples, natural language, structured input/output definition and schema definition and forms. The approach uses a functional dependency algorithm on the un-normalized data which is fed through the business form and then apply a normalization algorithm onthe discovered functional dependencies to have the normalized database structure. User intervention is needed to have the domain knowledgeof this approach. Finally, it develops the normalized database with all the keys and relationships; the accuracy of the outcome totally depend on the data fed by end users.

Mass Personalization (MP) is being adopted in the apparel industry to provide customized product ... more Mass Personalization (MP) is being adopted in the apparel industry to provide customized product solutions to the customer. Customer co-creation is the key opportunity provided during the initial design phase. The best way to evaluate these new products is to create virtual prototypes based on the digital environment. Therefore, this article examines the digital approaches to the development of apparel prototypes by systematically reviewing the literature. The findings reveal that existing digital approaches are primarily aimed at visualizing a new product based on a 3D avatar created using scanned body measurements of a customer, although user experience is required for evaluation. The most important factor in the design process is the digital solutions to enhance the user experience of the new product (comfort of clothing) in its infancy. Therefore, this study explores digital technologies used in other industries to get an understanding on the possibilities of adopting the same in the apparel industry.
