Consider adopting your own tone for future paintings! —— #oilpainting #fineart #customart #portrait #watercolor #watercolour #aquarelle #nosering #aviation #vintage #charcoal #acrylicpainting #anatomy #mcm #homedecor #wallart #howto #artlessons #architect | Hampton Watts

14K views · 1.7K reactions | The one and only thing I use (and have always used) for my texture paste is Joint Compound. I’m sure you’ve heard about it right now. 😊 There are lots of special recipes and other mixes that people use out there to get their perfect mixture for texture art, and I’ve tried a few of them, but honestly the straight joint compound is just so good. However, I will say you do have to do a few things to get this creamy. Number one: I always use a topping compound. There is less grit in the topping compound, which means it is going to give you a creamier smoother consistency.👩🏼‍🎨 Number two: I add a little water in to the mix. This helps to give that really creamy consistency. I will say though, don’t add too much otherwise your mix will become runny and it will lose it structure. A little bit at the time until you’re happy with how it looks. Number three: I use an electric mixer. This is just a paint mixer that attaches to my drill. This honestly makes a world of a difference with having a creamy mixture. It works out all of the air bubbles, it gets rid of any clumps, and it makes sure that water is really evenly mixed in. If you want to learn all about textured art, I have my art tutorial library on sale at the moment with 25% off. Use the code GIFT25 My textured art tutorial is the longest running tutorial out there, I was the first (that I was aware of) to create a tutorial on this kind of art and put it on the internet. Over the years I have been adding tutorials to the bundle and now there are 12 tutorials included in the library (with more to come). 10K views · 1K reactions | It all comes back to light, on the face, in the shadows and in the background. 1️⃣ Strong light source = strong painting. Pick a model or photo where the light is doing the heavy lifting. Strong, direct light makes it easier to see the light and dark shapes. Nail those shapes, and you’re halfway to capturing a great likeness.
2️⃣ The Background is not an afterthought! Paint the face and the background at the same time. Add color shapes around the face while you’re working on the face itself. Keep bouncing around to bring everything up together—it’ll make your painting feel cohesive. 3️⃣ Add light—and chroma—to your shadows. Shadows don’t have to be black holes. Especially if you’re working from a photo, soften and search for color in those dark areas. High contrast can flatten a face—so keep things rich, not harsh. #oilpainting #portraitpainting #paintingtips | Caitlin Winner
