Elephantidae sunt familia mammalium ordinis Proboscideorum, cui elephanti attribuuntur.

Compages ossium Loxondontae africanae.

Tres elephantidarum species hodie vivunt: Elephas maximus, Loxodonta cyclotis, et Loxodonta africana. Omnes aliae species et genera elephantidarum sunt exstincta, aliqua post ultimam aetatem glacialem: mammuthi nani fortasse usque ad 2000 a.C.n. exstabant.[1] Omnes elephantidae cum aliis animalibus quae cutem crassum habent olim in ordine Pachydermatis numerabantur, nunc autem invalido.

Maxima animalia mammifera terrestria sunt elephanti. Maximus elephas de quo scimus in Angolia sclopetatus est anno 1974; circa 12 000 chiliogrammata pondere fuit.
