However, it is introduced in a limited number of countries; the associated literature is primarily in English. Nevertheless, being in the outdoors and experiencing a landscape is a universal activity. Therefore, this thesis is devoted to finding out cultural and gender differences in perceiving outdoor activities through the example of British and Russian Internet forums and to indicating possible implications of these differences for outdoor guides working with representatives of these cultures. The first part of the paper is devoted to the theoretical overview of the problem, providing necessary definitions and currently existing points of view in the academia. It is followed by the part devoted to research methodology where main research methods are explained and the thesis outline is provided. The second half of the thesis presents the results of an empirical research study, conducted using the latent sematic analysis method. The third chapter is dedicated to the results of the study and a brief analysis of each subgroup (Russian males, Russian females, British males, British females) including a summarising diagram to each of them. The last chapter is devoted to interpretations of the results and to the discussion on cultural and gender differences in experiencing the outdoors. The research has shown that although gender differences in perceiving outdoor activities and landscapes within the Russian and the British discourses have been found, they seem to be culturally bound. Therefore, gender is a cultural construct and gender differences are stimulated by and generated within a certain culture, whereas cultural differences can be found in the overall purpose of going on a trip and one’s focus during the journey. Three dissimilarities regarding the focus of attention and the meaning of the former to outdoor practitioners are explained and given possible interpretations.Outdoor education is one of the rapidly developing areas nowadays. The article develops the ecolinguistic approach to consider the conceptual metaphor GLOBAL WARMIN... more The article develops the ecolinguistic approach to consider the conceptual metaphor GLOBAL WARMING IS CRIME in the Russian ecological media discourse. The article has the following structure: in the introduction a brief overview of the latest scientific papers is given; further on, research methodology is described and the main results are presented and analysed. The main research method used in the paper is critical discourse analysis (CDA) suggested and developed by S. Jäger and F. Maier. This research method is thoroughly considered in the paper. The results of the study are provided with examples and commentaries that explain the relevance of the present research. Moreover, the theory of collective symbols developed by J. Link and
the idea of framing the environment expressed by G. Lakoff are addressed to reveal the persuasive character of the conceptual metaphor GLOBAL WARMING IS CRIME. The conclusive part of the current paper gives a guideline to further research in the area.

The paper covers debatable questions in ecolinguistics. The idea that the terminological issue is... more The paper covers debatable questions in ecolinguistics. The idea that the terminological issue is most acute in this research field is justified: there is no clear demarcation among ‘ecolinguistics’, ‘linguoecology’, ‘ecological linguistics’, and ‘the ecology of language’. The article reflects the views of contemporary Russian and foreign linguists on the topic providing further critical analysis. The aim of the paper is as well to analyse different approaches to defining the contemporary status of ecolinguistics. Special attention is devoted in this respect to European linguistics, since ecolinguistics is rapidly developing especially in European countries. The article analyses cutting-edge research papers of leading philologists working in the sphere of ecolinguistics. The material of the article is intended to demonstrate the necessity to address this issue, especially acute in Russian linguistics, relying on the works of foreign colleagues (E. Haugen, M. Döring, A. Fill, A. Stibbe, etc.). The paper also provides and analyses the point of view of leading and most cited contemporary Russian ecolinguists, such as A. Skovorodnikov and V. Korovushkin.
