🚀 My Amazon SDE-2 Interview Experience 🚀 I recently had the opportunity to interview for the SDE-2 position at Amazon, and I wanted to share my experience for anyone looking to understand what to expect in the interview process. 1st Round: Online Assessment (DSA) 🧠 The online assessment consisted of two DSA questions. I was able to solve both, but I realized that I struggled to come up with the most optimized solutions during the time constraints. This made me reflect on the importance of time complexity analysis and how critical it is to not just find a solution, but to also think about scalability and efficiency from the start. 2nd Round: Technical Interview Focussed on System Design 🖥️ In the second round, I had the chance to interview with an SDM (Software Development Manager) from Amazon. The focus of this round was on System Design, specifically the design of an Instant Chatbot Application. I was able to discuss the Low-Level Design (LLD) in detail, explaining how the components would interact and the various trade-offs I would consider. However, I struggled when it came to the High-Level Design (HLD), especially in terms of scaling the system and choosing the right architectural patterns. This highlighted the importance of building a strong foundation in both system architecture and the big-picture thinking needed to solve real-world problems. HLD was unexpected at 2 years of experience and as per the recruiter the interview should have LLD only. Got Rejected in this round of interview.🥲 Takeaways: Optimize early: Always focus on improving the efficiency of your code right from the start. System Design is key: Having a structured approach for both low and high-level design is critical. You need to balance between detail and big-picture thinking. Continuous learning: This experience reinforced the value of constant practice, especially in areas like DSA and system design. 3 years ago, I cracked Microsoft and got hired for the Software Engineer 2 Role This is my whole experience: 🗺️ The Process: 1. Application:  Applied through LinkedIn and filled out the form on the Microsoft Careers website for a Software Engineer 2 position in Vancouver, BC, Canada. 2. Online Coding Round:  Received an email to take an online test on Codility. The test included two questions (iOS and DS/Algorithms) with a 2-hour time limit. 3. Virtual On-Site Round:  After clearing the online test, I had four back-to-back virtual interviews on MS Teams, each lasting one hour with 10-minute breaks in between.  🎢 The Interview Breakdown: 1. System Design Round:    - Focus: System design.    - Task: Design an application, build classes and methods, and discuss application scale and user details.    - Experience: Involved building a scalable system with detailed discussions. 2. Hiring Manager Round:    - Focus: Soft skills and situational questions.    - Questions: Examples like "Tell me about a time when...".    - Experience: Emphasis on soft skills and behavioral responses. 3. Technical Round 1:    - Focus: Technical skills (iOS, coding, DS/Algorithms).    - Task: Identify if a string is a palindrome with added complexities.    - Experience: Domain-specific questions and coding challenges. 4. Technical Round 2:    - Focus: DS/Algorithms.    - Question Examples:       1. Find two numbers whose sum is zero in a binary tree.      2. Reverse a linked list of 'x' nodes at a time.    - Experience: In-depth algorithm questions and data structure challenges.  🎯 Result: - Received a response 3 weeks post-interview due to the holiday season, with an offer for a different team than initially interviewed for. - Discussed compensation with the recruiter and negotiated with another offer in hand. The process took approximately 3 months from the interview to the start date. – P.S: One of the best things about my job is that I work remotely. I have the flexibility to work on my terms :)

My friend recently had an interview with Amazon for the SDE-1 position in their Global Selling team. It all started when a recruiter from Amazon reached out to him on LinkedIn for a role in Amazon's Global Selling Team, which focuses on cross-border commerce and he shared his resume which happen to be the first screening round. Normally, the first round is a HackerRank online assessment(70 minutes coding round) but due to his decent LinkedIn profile, the recruiter reached out and gave him a referral. The first round was a telephonic interview lasting 20-30 minutes. The interviewer asked about core concepts of DSA and Computer Science Fundamentals., particularly focusing on graph traversal techniques like BFS and DFS. They also discussed SQL indexes and heaps. 1. The interviewer asked about graph traversal techniques mainly BFS and DFS. He wanted him to explain them in detail with their time and space complexity. Also, he wanted to explain its implementation in recursive as well as iterative way. 2. What are Indexes in SQL? 3. What are heaps and their time complexity for various operations? 4. They also discussed the most interesting project my friend had worked on and the challenges faced. Key Takeaway: Focus on DSA fundamentals, especially BFS and DFS. Also, prepare for SQL and heap-related questions. In the second round, there were two medium-level coding questions from LeetCode, focusing on dynamic programming. Amazon has its own platform for conducting coding rounds called AmazonChime. It's a code editor used for amazon hiring. Additionally, there was a segment on Amazon leadership principles where my friend had to discuss challenging technical use cases he faced in his previous projects. Key Takeaway: Practice coding on platforms like LeetCode and familiarize yourself with Amazon's leadership principles. The third round involved a hard question and had two interviewers. The question was about traversing a matrix to collect coins, with specific rules for movement. My friend discussed both brute force and dynamic programming solutions. They also discussed a leadership-related question. Throughout the interview process, my friend emphasized the importance of explaining his thought process, even if his initial solution wasn't optimal. He also highlighted the significance of preparing for Amazon's leadership questions, as they are crucial for success. Key Takeaway: Be prepared to optimize solutions and explain your thought process clearly. Practice dynamic programming for optimization. After the interviews, my friend didn't receive any immediate feedback, which he noted is common in Amazon's hiring process. He recommends aspiring candidates to focus on both coding skills and leadership principles for success in Amazon interviews. Participated in Leetcode weekly contest 407. All tricky questions this time. Found 2nd question particularly interesting to observe!! Ideas/Approaches: 1. Number of Bit Changes to Make Two Integers Equal - if AND of two numbers isn't equal to target, Then not feasible to get target. - XOR of two numbers provide the bits where operation is needed. Returning the count of them. 2. Vowels Game in a String - Alice always wins except when there isn't any vowel in string. 3. Maximum Number of Operations to Move Ones to the End - Iterate for each bit from left to right, use variable counter to count 1's and use variable prev to store previous bit. - If found bit is 1 - If prev is 0, Add counter to res. - Increase counter - Update prev with current bit 4. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 🇮🇳 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 🌏 : 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝗪𝗘 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 During my search for international SWE roles, I interviewed with over 15 global companies, including Amazon Luxembourg, Google Tokyo, and Hudson River Trading London. Along the way, I encountered unique challenges that highlighted key differences between the international and Indian hiring process: 𝗥𝗲𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 ❌ : International roles can be tough to crack, especially due to local hiring preferences. For instance, I was in the final stages with Google Tokyo when my offer fell through because Japan closed its borders due to COVID. Visa sponsorship and relocation hurdles often lower your chances, especially for freshers. At each step, from resume screening to the team-matching phase, international candidates face stiffer odds, as companies want to avoid complexities. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 👨‍💻 : There's a myth that international interviews are either much harder or easier than those in India. In my experience, the difficulty level is pretty consistent globally. For Google, the interview process is exactly the same, no matter where you apply. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝘁 🍣 : International roles might put a bigger emphasis on cultural fit. For example, my Amazon Luxembourg interview placed around 50% weightage on HR rounds, specifically on Amazon's leadership principles, unlike any other interview I'd gone through. While the technical skills were crucial, they were equally interested in how I aligned with their company values and if I could adapt to their work culture. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 💸 : International packages often come with perks like relocation benefits, visa sponsorship, and housing allowances. For example, many companies offer services to help you find housing, which is a huge relief. While the salaries are higher than in India (you hear stories of X crore INR packages), it’s important to remember that living costs and taxes abroad are much higher too. I had to carefully evaluate my finances by considering the cost of living and taxes in the country before understanding how much I'd actually save. I’d love to hear your thoughts! My L4 SWE Google interview experience 1️⃣ The Referral I had sought a referral from a friend at Google to apply for L4 roles. 2️⃣ Recruiter Reachout The recruiter reached out after 2-3 weeks. I asked for 5 weeks to prepare. As I had cleared their interview in 2022 for L3, my phone screen round was skipped and I was directly moved to the onsite rounds. 3️⃣ 3 Coding Rounds and 1 Googlyness Round All interviews were precisely 45-minute rounds. 🎢 The onsite interviews: 1️⃣ Round 1 The interviewer asked a tree-based problem with 3 follow-ups. All solutions had to be coded with no bugs. Concepts involved were trees, bfs, dfs and merge sort. 2️⃣ Round 2 2 Coding questions were asked. The first question was based on DSU and the second on bfs/dfs. This was the best interview among all the rounds. 3️⃣ Round 3 2 Coding questions were asked. Concepts involved were binary search, bfs/dfs and priority queues. The interviewer was very particular about the code quality. 4️⃣ Googlyness Round The interviewer was candid but asked a lot of challenging questions about my work experiences. I tried to align my answers with Google's values as much as possible. 🎯 Result: I was informed that the interview feedback was positive but team matching took several months. I talked to around 6 teams before matching to one of them. I received the offer after a round of negotiations within 2 weeks. Overall, Google's interview problems were original and challenging, but not extremely difficult. If you have a good grasp of the basics and code regularly, you should be able to clear the loop. However, as my 2nd interview pointed out, nothing is off limits. You are expected to know all basic data structures and algorithms really well. 📚 Few tips for successful interviews with Google: - Make sure you clarify the constraints of the problem clearly before you start solving. L4 interview questions tend to be open-ended. - Try to arrive at the most optimal solution quickly. Don't beat around the bush. - Discuss your approach clearly with the interviewer. - Prepare well for behavioral interviews. It is fine to pause and think your answer through in behavioral interviews. The best advice I ever received came from a senior engineer at Amazon during a code review. Early in my career, I was obsessed with writing perfect code, but I struggled to keep up with my workload. His guidance changed my approach: First, make your code work and understand why it works. Second, ensure there are no bugs—make it right. Finally, take the time to add comments and optimize. Coding can be complex, especially in large codebases, so it's crucial to keep your processes simple. This advice has become a daily practice for me. So last year, in August, Zomato, for the first time, began charging a platform fee of Rs. 2 per order. Then, just in the new year, they again raised their charge to Rs. 4 per order in key markets around to make more profit out of that. Then, in April, it increased the fee by 25% to Rs.5 per order. Last month, the fee went up again to Rs. per order. So, Zomato has raised its platform fee three times this year, going from Rs. 2 per order to Rs. 6. Even with these changes, the number of Zomato's monthly customers has stayed about the same. For example, the average number of monthly customers was 17.5 million in Q1 FY24, 18.4 million in Q2, 18.8 million in Q3, 19 million in Q4, and 20.3 million in Q1 FY25. In the 2023–24 financial year, the platform fee was one of the top three things that helped increase Zomato's revenue. The other two were money made from operations and customer delivery charges. "Alexa, it’s 2025. Confirm my dream internship at Amazon." I am beyond excited to announce that I’ve been selected for a 6-month SDE internship at Amazon in 2025! After months of grinding through coding challenges, algorithmic puzzles, and interviews, this “yes” feels incredibly rewarding. The journey has had its fair share of setbacks- rejections from tech giants like Google, DE Shaw, and Stripe- but every rejection only fueled my determination to improve and keep pushing forward. From mastering data structures and algorithms, tackling complex coding problems, and building impactful projects, each step was a lesson in resilience and self-improvement. I’m grateful for the numerous late nights of debugging and the countless hours spent refining my skills. But more than that, I’ve learned that the journey is just as important as the destination. Turning a vision into achievable milestones with SMART goals - insights from my experience at Amazon. Starting as a fresh graduate at Amazon, I've seen the impact of goal setting on career growth for half a decade. 3 years ago I created a University Engagement Program and together with Amazonians from Amazon Women in Engineering & allies, we built 3 Bootcamp tracks and a mechanism to provide mentorship at scale for hundreds of students every year. The initial idea behind creating the Uniiversity Engagement Program a few years back was to develop an easily accessible and free program for students worldwide, which bridges the gap between academic studies and a successful kick-start in the tech industry. Over time, we worked on translating this into a vision and actionable SMART goals. This year we have expanded 3x in scope and reach, have a team of ~150 mentors & lecturers, added a full ML track and are hosting keynotes from Principal Engineers. Interesting take on her when it comes to entry-level resumes 👇 But what if the job description lists 7+ languages in the required and preferred qualifications section? Nowadays, especially in this market, just meeting the required qualifications isn't enough. You also wanna have a good number of the preferred qualifications down. And to get through ATS, the more keywords and phrases the better, which is what "tailoring" your resume is really about. So if engineers shouldn't stuff their resumes with keywords, then should job descriptions be less demanding then?

70+ Rejections…… And a lot more before I finally cracked Oracle Today, I want to give you a glimpse into my rejection journey: ◼️ Feb 2021: Interviewed for Google’s STEP program but got no response. ◼️ Mar 2021: Took tests for Uber (She++) and Microsoft Engage. Rejected by both. Struggled with DP for Uber and couldn’t complete the timed MCQ for Microsoft. ◼️ Apr 2021: Got a second chance at Google STEP, again rejected due to poor preparation in DP. ◼️ Jul 2021: Applied to 25+ companies during on-campus tests. Secured interviews with four and received offers from Google and Flipkart. ◼️ Jul 2022: Completed internship at Google but didn’t get a PPO. ◼️ Aug - Nov 2022: Applied to 50+ companies. Faced 20+ rejections before tests and 25+ after coding rounds. I eventually got the chance to interview with four companies, including Oracle, and landed an offer! The biggest lesson I learned from this experience is that I shouldn’t have done it all alone. If I had gotten help earlier, things would’ve been different. But you don’t have to go through that. 🚀 Exciting Update: Amazon SDE-I Intern 2025 Application - Coding Questions Shared! Hello #Connections, I’m excited to share that after completing the Amazon off-campus assessment for the SDE-I Intern 2025 (6-month Software Internship), many of you have been reaching out asking for the coding questions I encountered during the online assessment. As promised, here are the coding questions from the coding round: Question 1: Developers at Amazon are working on a new algorithm using the Bitwise XOR operation. Given an array arr of even length n. Developers can perform an operation on a given array which is defined below as many times as necessary: • Choose two indices Land R, where 0 <= L <= R < N •Let x be the bitwise XOR of all elements of the subarray represented by indices Land R of the given array. • Assign all elements of the chosen subarray to x. Given an integer array arr[], find the minimum number of operations required to make all elements of the given array equal to zero. Question 2: Data analysts at Amazon are analyzing time-series data. It was concluded that the data of the nth item was dependent on the data of some xth day if there is a positive integer k such that floor(n/k) = x, where floor(z) represents the largest integer less than or equal to z. Given n, find the sum of all the days' numbers on which the data of the xth (0≤x≤n) will be dependent. The coding round was a fantastic opportunity to push my limits in terms of time management and problem-solving skills. It was a 70-minute challenge with two medium-level problems that required careful thought and efficient coding!
