Dear members of the Web Applications Working Group, For your information: -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Seeking Additional Co-Chairs for the Web Applications Working Group Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2025 16:41:50 +0800 From: xueyuan <xueyuan@w3.org> To: w3c-ac-members@w3.org Dear Advisory Committee Representative, [This announcement will be forwarded to W3C group chairs] This is an advance notice that the Team is currently seeking additional co-chairs for the Web Applications Working Group. The mission of the Web Applications Working Group (WebApps WG) is to produce specifications that facilitate the development of client-side web applications. At TPAC, the WG discussed various strategies to improve the management of the WebApps WG. One proposal under consideration is the addition of co-chairs, each responsible for overseeing a thematically grouped set of specifications: Rationale: • Distributed Ownership: Each co-chair would focus on a small cluster of related specifications. • Subject-Matter Expertise: Grouping by theme (e.g., storage, device/sensors, UI events, etc.) encourages deeper technical oversight and more coherent guidance. • Shared Goals & Use Cases: Thematic clusters simplify discussions, testing, and interoperability efforts, making the specification development process more streamlined. Example Thematic Groupings (Adjustable): • Storage & Data: IndexedDB, Web Locks, File API • User Interactions & Events: Pointer Lock, Gamepad API, UI Events, Badging API • Device & Sensors: Contact Picker API, Device Orientation & Motion, Geolocation API, Screen Wake Lock API, Screen Orientation • App Lifecycle & Distribution: Web App Manifest, Push API, Web Share, Image Resource Co-Chair Criteria: • Strong technical expertise in the given theme. • Demonstrated interest and contributions in the chosen theme. • Commitment to timely issue resolution, facilitating productive discussion, and building consensus. Léonie Watson (TetraLogical), Marcos Cáceres (Apple, Inc.), and Philippe Le Hegaret (W3C) are joining the Team Contacts as facilitators for this proposal. If you are interested or would like to suggest an individual, please reach out to the facilitators by sending an email to <team-webapps@w3.org>. More information about the group can be found on its home page, including information about group Chairs, Team Contacts, and instructions for joining the group: https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/webapps/ This announcement follows section 3.4.1 of the Process Document https://www.w3.org/policies/process/20231103/#ReqsAllGroups For Philippe Le Hégaret, W3C Strategy and Project Lead; Michael[tm] Smith and Xiaoqian Wu, Web Applications WG Team Contacts; Xueyuan Jia, W3C Marketing & Communications
