Federico Canaccini
Federico Canaccini is a researcher at Università di Bari and Università Pontificia Salesiana in Rome.
Canaccini specializes in Dante’s age, in particular the struggle between papacy and empire, Guelphs and Ghibellines.
In 2008 Matteo d’Acquasparta, tra Dante e Bonifacio VIII he details the mission of cardinal Acquasparta and his role as peace maker in Florence between Black and White Guelphs during Dante’s priorate, year 1300.
His 2009 book (Ghibellini e Ghibellinismo in Toscana da Montaperti a Campaldino) is an in-depth study of the Tuscan Ghibelline party, including the origin and etymology its name.
His 2016 book (Al cuore del primo Giubileo: Bonifacio VIII e la Antiquorum habet) is a study about the first jubilee (1300) and the edition of a new exemplar of the bull Antiquorum habet in Florentine vernacular.
Dr. Canaccini published several essays about Italy in the age of the communes, with an original perspective on the Ghibelline seal of Florence, a new list of exbanniti and the critical edition of Questio de duratione mundi of the astrologer John Paul de Fundis (15th century).
In 2014 he taught Medieval warfare at CUA (DC) as Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor. At the moment he is busy transcribing and editing the Quodlibeta I-II of Giovanni di Napoli (OP) and writing a new book about the factions, between history and myth.
