Matches
editGood job matching the entire catalog to Wikidata :) I went through the matches and noticed a couple of things that may warrant more discussion. @Diggr, Peterchanws, Relic Keeper:
- advergame (Q60617785) was created but we already have advergaming (Q368542) − sitelinks would need to be sorted out (or the items merged) ;
- music video game (Q60617929) makes me skeptical since we already have rhythm game (Q2632782) and music video game (Q584105) ;
- flight simulation video game (Q60617880) is likely a duplicate (at least partial) of flight simulation video game (Q4740553) ;
- 1030 was matched to fighting game (Q846224), however the latter is specifically about Versus-Figting games (Street-Fighter style or Smash Bros. style), while the former is a super-class encompassing hack and slash (Q1163960), beat 'em up (Q401831) and even artillery game (Q122207) − that match thus seems incorrect.
Besides that, I’m slightly confused by some categories − unclear to me what OLAC means with them, and how they fit in the current genre tree:
- interactive fiction (Q60617915). It’s defined as a super-class of graphic adventure game (Q2628513) but that does not help me much :)
- logic video game (Q60617925), as subclass of puzzle video game (Q54767) and casual game (Q1050023). We also have puzzle video game (Q3177897) (because in French-language Wikipedia we make the difference between « Jeu de réflexion » ('thinking games') and puzzle games as subclass of it). I start to think that the sitelinks on puzzle video game (Q54767) need to be split around − not too sure how.
More minor:
- Is mystery video game (Q60617825) equivalent to Category:Detective video games (Q7715000)?
- Unclear to me where empire-building video game (Q60617834) stands − it’s explicitly marked as distinct from 4X (Q603555), but I find the description unclear.

- Thanks, for outline some issues! The mapping was done really quickly so I already thought that there are some unclear matches because vocabulary mapping isn't always 1:1. I have been started to add some mapping relation type (P4390) to clarify some mappings. Some thoughts point by point:
- advergame (Q60617785) vs. advergaming (Q368542) One Item is about the practice and the other is about the genre. Maybe the sort out of sitelinks would help. Found also in-game advertising (Q938680)
music video game (Q60617929) should be merged into rhythm game (Q2632782) and music video game (Q584105). Finally, these two would get the same OLAC identifier with mapping relation type (P4390) 'broad'done- merging from flight simulation video game (Q60617880) into flight simulation video game (Q4740553) would be okay at least we define the mapping as 'broad'
maybe it is also suitable to define this match as broad as well or even related (fighting game (Q846224))done

- Yes, this term is confusing. 'interactive fiction' would suits better. I don't have an idea what to do with this.
- so maybe logic video game (Q60617925) suits better with the french meaning of puzzle video game (Q3177897)?
---
- one is a wikimedia category and the other is the video game genre. There are other video game genres where categories or lists exists. I wouldn't merge such things together.
- It's not distinct from 4X (Q603555) it is marked as 'related to'. The descirbtion refers "[It] encompass elements from other genres, including city-building, 4X, and strategy...". So it is related to it, but not the same. But sure, it is not really obvious why OLAC created two terms instead of using only 4X. I can't think of a game where only one of the two applies.
