To assess the tourist attractiveness of cities, two indicators were utilized in the study - the indicator of the intensity of foreign tourism (the ratio of overnight stays to the number of inhabitants) and the share of overnight stays of foreign tourists. The study embodies 191 cities with more than 5,000 inhabitants. Firstly, the results confirmed the patent dominance of Prague (69% of all overnight stays in 2018, the intensity 12.3), and the overall dominant position of 42 cities with urban conservation zone (92% share of overnight stays, the intensity 7.6) and above all of the spa towns (14.7% share of overnight stays, the intensity almost 14). Secondly, the results confirmed the expected consequences of the pandemic on the most tourist-attractive cities in 2020. The share of overnight stays fell to 24% compared to 2018. Likewise, the indicator of the intensity of foreign tourism fell from 4,0 to 1,0 with a milder impact on the most important spa towns (the share of overnight stays of foreign tourists slumped to 30.3%, the intensity dropped from 13.9 to 4.2).

The goal is to analyze and assess the main tourist streams primarily measured by the number of overnight stays, and secondly, changes in the geographic structure of foreign tourists. It provides tabular and cartographic analysis of their spatial distribution. The article identifies the most important source countries of international tourism inside and into Europe. The result of the paper is an evaluation of the negative impact of the pandemic on Europe as a whole, in more detail in European sub-regions and finally in the most important European countries in terms of tourism, on the decline of international tourism and related economic losses.

It provides not only authentic experiences but also a feeling of intense excitement. This research note aims to report on the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on balloon tourism. It presents initial results on new ideas regarding opportunities and threats to ballooning in the Czech Republic arising during the coronavirus outbreak. Several methods were used, combining desk research with qualitative in-depth interviews with main balloon flights operators. Despite many unfavourable circumstances, the pandemic situation brought several opportunities for this business stemming from the government measures and shifts in travellers’ behaviour. These opportunities include, for example, the focus on domestic clientele looking for different experiences under pandemic conditions and the strategic cooperation of balloon flights operators with accommodation providers.

The paper aims to analyze the consumer behavior of shoppers in the local production market, identify key motivations and characteristics of purchases, and secondarily identify the connection with the approach to travel. The methods used include a quantitative questionnaire survey, thus the answers were collected during the field survey by a simple random selection. The data were then analyzed according to basic statistical methods and interpreted. The paper and its outputs serve mainly as a pilot study of a questionnaire survey, so the sample of respondents is meager (N = 94). As a prime finding can be considered the fact that respondents choose the local production markets due to the quality and freshness of products or their taste. On the contrary, price is not one of the main reasons for purchases, even when assessing the choice of a particular product is not a key criterion. Most respondents prefer a vacation in rural areas, not in urban areas, so there is a parallel between the preference for local products and rural tourism.

To support competitive and sustainable tourism development, it is advisable to focus on alternative forms of tourism in order to diversify tourism options in the destinations. From this point of view, it seems appropriate to deal with the issue of ‘Special Interest Tourism’ as a form of ‘alternative’, ‘ethical’, or ‘environmentally responsible’ tourism. The paper reflects the urgent need for sustainable tourism research. The aim of the paper is to provide the introduction and overview of the issue and outline perspectives that may open the way to future, more systematic research. The situation in the Czech Republic is based on the mapping of the current spatial distribution of selected special interest tourism attractions. The findings identify the possibilities for diversification of general (mass) tourism offers. The metadata from the Czech and foreign metainformation syst...

It imposes restrictions on both tourism supply and tourism demand. Government lockdowns travel businesses and, at the same time, restricts the freedom of movement. Thus, the supply and demand sides have to cope with the exogenous shocks. The first evidence of experience and reactions of travel businesses was presented in early March 2020. Data from bookings describes how visitors start to adapt their travel behavior to the exit strategies. Even rural tourism is affected by the worldwide spread crisis. To highlight the impacts on rural tourism, this research focuses on middle and small-sized entrepreneurs (e.g., farmers, winemakers, local private rural museums, local accommodation providers; local providers of hippotherapy) and on local tourist organizations (e. g. DMO, tourist information centers) involved in rural tourism. The aim of this study is to show how they overcame the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic. In other words, the study describes the changes in visitor behavior from the perspective of rural tourism providers. The research is based on a case study of South Moravia and applies both qualitative (a questionnaire survey) and quantitative (interviews) methods. The research data shows that rural tourism providers manage to cope with the government restrictions and tailor their services to new customers'' requirements as well. Besides the loss of incomes, tourism service providers face a decrease in the number of visitors, and thus they suffer a slump in sales. The majority of all rural tourism providers responded that their segment of visitors had changed. More specifically, the absence of foreign visitors was replaced by domestic ones.
