42K views · 7K reactions | 👻Bring your old hardware back to life with the CROCKPOT CAULDRON 🪄 1) Remove old hardware 2) Fill old crockpot with water (I did a squirt of dawn dish soap here but honestly not needed) *do not reuse crockpot for food* I bought this one 2nd hand for $5 and wrote “not for food” on it 3) Cook on low overnight or longer (can periodically check to see if paint falling off) 4) remove paint, try not to scratch 5) scrub with barkeepers friend (some people use the liquid version) 6) optional step: polish with Brasso (I like the old patina so I skipped this step) BONUS step: after they are cleaned up & dry, spray with Rustoleum Lacquer to give them a nice protective clear coat (that should help prevent any future rusting) 7) reattach your hardware - I reuse the old screws and haven’t had any issues. BUT if your screws are too far gone, take your old screws to a local hardware store (I love ACE) and ask them to find the same size screws. If your screws are loosey goosey, ask for same size but slightly longer. They can even special order the right color screw for you (no extra charge). And enjoy your magical “new” hardware! I wouldn’t recommend doing this all in one day like we did but I was so terrified that if we left the tiles up without grout that they would fall off the walls 😂 so we started grouting at like 7pm and finished at 10:30pm, and then had to wake up early for work the next day 🥲 but I loooove how it turned out! We did end up caulking the corners and the edges of the backsplash - I just couldn’t fit it in the 90 second time limit on reels!
