We’ve had more rain than usual this year and the last few years we’ve had very little rain. So far all of these plants have been able to thrive in both conditions. Although I’m sure I’ll move more perennials and shrubs around this fall (because I just can’t help myself), this garden has improved so much by adding more perennials and shrubs and not relying on so many annuals. It was a hard move for me because I used to tend to like constant color, but this garden relies on texture and tone just as much as color. I’ve grown to love it. Regardless of your garden footprint, you always want to combine contrasting texture and size. So think puffy/fluffy, spiked, fuzzy, shiny, wispy, tall/short, evergreen/deciduous.
