Hillary \\ Tello and Rose on Instagram: "People come from all over the country to see these hydrangeas. I got the low down from the @chathambarsinn head gardener on how to achieve this beauty in our own gardens. Here are Pam @tolmanvasques seven tips for the perfect hydrangea, comment TIPS for the fertilizer and trimmers her team uses . 1. Use Carbon Pro and a pinch of soil moist every spring to encourage exponential growth and keep the ground moist. 2. Trim your old wood hydrangeas just after blooms are spent and new wood in late winter. Pam suggested electric clippers. 3. Amend your soil for optimal color. For blue, use soil acidifier, for pink use garden lime. 4. Water at the root, not from above so you don’t burn the leaves. 5. Never trim more than 30% of an old wood hydrangea and 1/

Joy in the Garden 🌸Joyce Merschman Ludlow on Instagram: "This front garden gets full sun all day and needs to have plants that can take it. We’ve had more rain than usual this year and the last few years we’ve had very little rain. So far all of these plants have been able to thrive in both conditions. Although I’m sure I’ll move more perennials and shrubs around this fall (because I just can’t help myself), this garden has improved so much by adding more perennials and shrubs and not relying on so many annuals. It was a hard move for me because I used to tend to like constant color, but this garden relies on texture and tone just as much as color. I’ve grown to love it. What changes have you made in your gardens that was difficult, but you’re glad you made the change? #garden #garden

Maryland Cottage Garden Design on Instagram: "Move over PB&J! These flower pairings never fail to yin and yang just right in the garden—or in a bouquet. I’ve had a lot of followers say they really want a garden, but don’t know where to start. Well, this is for you! Regardless of your garden footprint, you always want to combine contrasting texture and size. So think puffy/fluffy, spiked, fuzzy, shiny, wispy, tall/short, evergreen/deciduous. To simplify, those sub categories fall into the overarching categories of spiked, mounded, and fans/fillers. You should have 20% spikes, 40% mounds, and 40% fans and fillers for a balanced garden. You also want trees for added height and interest. Also, consider varieties that bloom together, or don’t if they compete with one another. Chart out the
Joy in the Garden 🌸Joyce Merschman Ludlow on Instagram: "Early summer in this part shade zone 5b Iowa garden brings different hues, shape, and textures. This garden has evolved quite a bit over just the last two years. My biggest learning… let plants overlap! It creates flow and connectivity in the garden. People who have primarily shade gardens, often want more sun. People who have primarily sun gardens, often want more shade. I was a sun gardener that loved it until more shade was created as my tree matured. And now I’ve discovered so many beautiful shade-loving plants and I long for more shade. Although the container in this reel is in part shade, there’s a matching container with the same plants in full sun. So the plants in this container can take sun and shade. I’ll keep you updat
