Although at first glance this image may look like a hand-coloured postcard, it is in fact a coloured collotype, which is a mechanical printing process used before offset lithography. Not much is known about the publisher, S. N. Banshiudo, which operated in Japan between 1905 and 1916, except that they were famous for their coloured collotype postcards. This postcard is signed, 'S' – J. Noguchi, on the reverse.
