Somali War Horses: The Horse That Feeds It's Master
Somali pony. According to the scholar Said Sheikh Samatar, until the British colonial authorities cracked down in the 1920s, many pastoralist Somalis owned war horses that were used exclusively for raids on other clans’ camel herds, or for defending their own. Even a small clan might have a hundred or more. There were two types of pony: the western Galbeed and the Bari from the east.

Why are Somali horses so short?
The Somali Pony can go three days or longer without water and eats only grass. They require virtually no care. They are extremely hardy and perfectly adapted to their hostile environment.
