Second continental congress
The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the 13 colonies that formed in Philadelphia in May 1775, soon after the launch of the American Revolutionary War. It succeeded the First Continental Congress, which met between September and October of 1774
Thomas Paine
Thomas paine was born January 29, 1737, in Norfolf England. Thomas paine was an England-born political Philosopher and writer who supported revolutionary causes in America and Europe. Published 1776 to international acclaim, “common Sense” was the first pamphlet to advocate American independence.
Samuel Adams
Samuel adams, a Founding Father of the United states and a pilitical theorist who protested British taxation without representation, uniting the American colonies in the fight for independence during the Revolutionary War.
Common sense
Common sense is a pamphlet, setting forth his arguments in favor of American independence. Although little used today, pamphlets were a impotant media for spread of idea in the 16th through 19th centuries.
As a result of the French and Indian war, the British drove the French out of North America. After Britain won the Seven Year War and gained land in North America, it issued the Royal Proclamtion of 1763. Which prohibited American colonists from settling west of Appalachian.
Daughters of Libra
The Daughters of liberty preformed equally important functions. The two groups, the Sons of Liberty and the Daughters of Liberty, led the popular vote resistance to the Stamp Act. Both groups considered themselves British patriots defending their liberty, just ad their forebears had done in the time of james ĪĪ
Lexington-concord
On april 19, 1775, British am American soldiers exchanged fire in the Massachuttes town of Lexington and Concord. On the night of April 18, the royal governor of Massachusetts General Thomas Gage, commanded by King George ||| to suppress the rebellious Americans, had ordered 700 British soldiers to seize the colonists military stores in Concord.
Loyalist
A loyalist was a person who remained loyal to the established ruler or government. They beliveved that independence would mean the loss of the economic benifits from membership in the British mercantile system. During the revolutionary war many Loyists were treated brutally. When the war wrapped up, loyalists often found they had to fend for themselves or flee
John Hancock
John Hancock was credited as the first signer of the Declaration of Independence. His stylish signature became famous, Hancock blodly inscribed his name so the English king would not need glasses to read it.
Valley Forge
In the winter of 1777-1778 was a major turning point in the American Revolutionary War. George Washingtom moved the continental Army to their winter quarters at Valley Forge. Through the Revolutionary forces had secured a victory at saratoga in September and October.
First continental congress
On september 5, 1774, each of the 13 colonies expept for Georgia met in Philadelphia as the First Contiental Congress to organize colonial resistance to Parliament’s Coercive Acts.
Committee of correspondence
Committees of Correspondence were the American colonies first organization maintaining communication with one another. The relationship woth Great Britain made it more important for the colonies to share ideas and information.
Paul revere
Paul revere was a silversmith, he also took part in the Boston Tea Party and was a principal rider for the Boston’s committee of saftey. With that role he warned then with the quote “The british are coming, the british are coming!”
Battle of Saratoga
Occurred September and October, 1777, during the second year of the American Revolution. It had two crucial battles, fought eighteen days apart, an was a decisive victory for the contiental Army and a crucial turning point in the revolutionary war.
