Painting my kitchen cabinets

I Finally did it!! My kitchen was always nice, but dark & dated. The before pictures shown here were from September 2011. That was about the time I started painting my tile backsplash different colors. Since my husband didn't want me to paint the cabinets, I kept trying different colors on the back splash & walls. Finally, he agreed. I guess I caught him at a week moment. Lol! Anyway, I got started on the island fast before he could change his mind! Sanded everything down after taking off doors & hardware. Added 2 coats of Zinnser Bullseye 1,2,3 primer. Then hand painted 2 coats of Sherwin Williams white latex enamel paint. My husband decided to help me since it looked like it was going to be quite a mess in our kitchen for longer than he wanted to deal with it. I took off all the doors & hardware. He took the doors & drawers out to out barn area, set them up in a row on 4 tables & started lightly sanding. Then I had him add 2 coats of Zinnser Bullseye 1,2,3 primer. Meanwhile I was working inside on the cabinet boxes. After sanding some of them, we decided to try just priming & painting. Much to my amazement, the primer was working great without sanding! (We had 2-3 coats of polyurethane on my cabinets. ). I only had a couple of tiny streaks where the poly was seeping through. On those I added a 3rd coat of primer before painting. I put 2 coats of enamel over everything. The cabinet boxes I painted by hand. The doors & drawers I sprayed. I then went over them lightly by hand after they were reinstalled to better match everything. I also repainted my backsplash using a sponge & 3 coordinating colors (white, tan & a pale yellow). It looks like natural stone now too! I'm so happy with the end product. It brightened my kitchen so much that it looks like we put in new lighting! Lol!
